Position Summary




Under the direction and guidance of the Marketing & Communications Officer, the Graphic Designer is responsible for creating visually engaging and culturally aligned design materials that reflect the values and spirit of Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre (SKHC). This includes the design and production of print and digital media, promotional materials, reports, signage, and social media assets that support SKHC's programs, services, and community initiatives.The Graphic Designer plays a key role in upholding the SKHC brand identity by integrating Anishinaabe language, imagery, and teachings into design work in a manner that is authentic and respectful. This position requires strong creative vision, technical proficiency, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.###

Key Responsibilities

Creative Design & Branding



Develop, design, and produce visual materials including brochures, flyers, posters, infographics, signage, presentations, and digital media. Support brand consistency by maintaining SKHC's visual identity, templates, and brand guidelines. Design culturally appropriate artwork incorporating Anishinaabe imagery, symbols, and language in collaboration with Elders, cultural advisors, and program teams. Create engaging social media and web graphics aligned with campaigns, events, and public health communications. Design branded merchandise and event materials (banners, backdrops, clothing, promotional items, etc.).

Digital & Print Production



Prepare press-ready and digital files for internal and external printing and ensure quality control on final products. Collaborate with external print vendors to obtain quotes, review proofs, and manage production timelines. Maintain the SKHC photo and asset library, ensuring proper use of images and consent documentation. Support multimedia projects including photography, short video editing, and basic motion graphics (as needed).

Collaboration & Support



Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Officer to plan and execute design needs across departments. Provide design support for reports, proposals, funding submissions, and internal communications. Collaborate with Cultural Practitioners to respectfully represent Indigenous perspectives through design. Attend staff meetings and participate in organizational events and cultural activities as required.

Qualifications



Education & Experience

Post-secondary diploma or degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field. Minimum two (2) years of professional design experience, preferably within a health, education, or community service setting. Experience designing culturally grounded materials for Indigenous communities is an asset. Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat) and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Canva, social-media design, and website content management considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong understanding of design principles, typography, and layout for both digital and print media. Ability to translate organizational values and health information into clear, accessible visual content. Familiarity with Anishinaabe culture, language, and visual representation practices. Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach. Ability to work respectfully with community members, Elders, and diverse teams.

Conditions of Employment



Must provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. Must possess a valid Ontario driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle. Must be willing to participate in cultural teachings and professional development opportunities. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events or campaigns.
