Job Description


The City of Edmonton\'s creative team is on the search for an outstanding Graphic Designer who can apply their passion for design and impeccable technical skills to do great work for the City. The Graphic Designer is responsible for developing communication and marketing material for the City and specific campaigns, projects and initiatives. This role will create visual communication solutions that meet client objectives and align with the visual identity. This includes creating concepts and executing designs for a variety of mediums, such as brochures, posters, print and digital ads, environmental design and other content.

  • Analyze and interpret client requirements through defined creative briefs and collaborate with creative team colleagues
  • Utilize graphic design skills in layout, typography, photography and production to provide creative solutions to meet client and corporate needs
  • Ensure COE visual identity standards are adhered to
  • Adhere to timelines and provide deliverables on time and on budget
  • Work collaboratively with project and production management team to ensure workflow requirements are met
  • Stay aware and up to date on current and emerging trends in print and digital mediums
  • Assist in educating City colleagues on best practices of the creative process and brand identity
  • Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Degree or a 2 year Diploma with a major emphasis in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or Commercial Arts
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a graphic designer working in a creative team
  • Ability to conceptually design and prepare visual communication material
  • Considerable knowledge of graphic design, typography, and print production techniques
  • Considerable knowledge, skills, and abilities, in the use of industry standard graphic design software, including Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat)
  • Knowledge of photography and videography, social media channels and their visual requirements
  • Knowledge of brand architecture and visual identity
  • Advanced communications and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver presentations
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and with operating knowledge of advertising agency model

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $33.357 - $41.900 (Hourly); $69,649.420 - $87,487.200 (Annually)
