This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

In accordance with the , this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our and annual salary range of $58,210 to $80,050. This position has an approximate full time appointment of one year from the date of hire.

Location: This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person and work primarily located at North Campus, Edmonton.

Position Summary

The Grants Facilitator will report to the Department of Medicine\'s (DoM) Associate Chair - Research and work closely with our research office team, with the faculty members that would be lead PIs in large grants, with individual researchers in our Department, with the FOMD and College research office as well as with the FOMD and Hospital fund-raising and development teams.

This position demands in-depth knowledge of the broad research-landscape and the federal (ie Tri Council) grant process and requires strong communication and organization skills and ability to work in a high-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Working with the Department of Medicine\'s faculty members and our research office team to:

  • help mobilize investigators for both large-scale, multi-center, multi-investigator funding proposals, particularly tri-council grants where the nominated PI is a DoM member (primary affiliation).
  • create a DOM specific web-based resource, collecting multiple elements that are typically required in such grants, so that a \xe2\x80\x9cone stop shop\xe2\x80\x9d resource will be available to our grant applicants.
Examples include:
  • research infrastructure and access (core facilities);
  • training programs for graduate students;
  • policies for EDI and conflict of interest;
  • rules for indirect costs of research (overhead);
  • HR regulations relevant in budget justifications;
  • institutional strategic research priorities;
  • licensing and patent rules and options;
  • U of A/FoMD good clinical practice (GCP) policies and good laboratory and safety practice;
Communication:
  • Develop and maintain website information
  • Effectively communicate through social media platforms (i.e. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, department newsletter, etc.) funding opportunities, research success stories, fundraising, etc.
  • Communicate directly with researchers, administrators, other fund raising teams and donors
This position will impact every aspect ranging from basic to translational, clinical or outcomes research, in terms of large rant applications developed by the department researchers or large philanthropic fundraising efforts developed by the departments leadership, both promoting the competitiveness and visibility of the department nationally and internationally.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • A research graduate degree (Masters or PhD) in an academic discipline ideally supplemented by formal education or other training in management or communication skills.
Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in an academic or research/technology development environment with a demonstrated track record of contributing to complex and ambitious grants or fundraising initiatives.
  • Experience in working on grants, projects or budgets.
  • Keen ability to understand complex information and environments.
  • Detail orientated, multi-tasker, organized.
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal, community and public relations skills.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to think creatively, and critically.
