Role Summary:





We are seeking a highly organized, detail-driven, and experienced Grant Accountant to oversee and manage day-to-day accounting operations and support strategic financial functions. This role will work closely with the BC Conservation Team to manage the tracking and reporting of program grants and is key to ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and timely reporting across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of grant and fund accounting and non-profit financial practices, as well as the ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and risk management.

Responsibilities:





The Grant Accountant will:


Track grants paid to external partners by project and associated project match funding, in partnership with the BC Conservation Team Forecast cash flow for grants payable Manage long-term conservation stewardship fund investments Maintain accurate records of donations and grant revenues and prepare timely monthly revenue recognition entries and analysis Support with day-to-day accounting transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate coding by account, program, and grant, with clear documentation and descriptions Manage payment runs for grants payable, ensuring all grant recipients are paid promptly and in line with the Foundation's granting policies Perform full-cycle accounting activities including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close with detailed reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules Prepare and submit tax filings and government remittances including GST, PST, property taxes, and other statutory obligations Prepare and submit required documentation for annual audits, the T3010 charity return, and ad hoc audits from grantors or other agencies Support with bank and credit card reconciliations, verifying that all transactions are supported with proper backup documentation Support with payroll preparation and processing, as needed Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reporting and support compliance with regulatory and funder requirements Support the development, documentation, and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls Maintain the highest standards of data security and confidentiality with respect to the organization's digital and physical financial records and systems Contribute to a constructive, results oriented, and inspiring organizational culture



Requirements:




Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation (or in progress) Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in the non-profit or charitable sector Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and non-profit reporting standards Proficient in accounting software (Acumatica experience a plus) and advanced Excel skills Experience with financial reporting, grant reporting and budget tracking
