What you'll do
The Transmission Maintenance Graduate Technologist-in-Training (GTT) Program involves intensive on the job training and
is designed to translate your knowledge into practical experience.
This is a two (2) year on-the-job training program where the successful candidate will:
Be trained to perform a variety of technical, administrative and planning functions related to the maintenance of
transmission lines, including planning minor relocations, estimating, scheduling, acceptance inspections, construction and
monitoring.
Perform a variety of technical, administrative, and planning functions related to maintenance of rights-of-way, such as
contracting, road access, priority assessments and property issues.
Coordinate and/or performs activities involved in the tendering and inspection of transmission slope stability, erosion and
civil work.
Provide technical input, assesses, coordinates and administers a variety of special programs and projects associated with
transmission line maintenance.
Prepare tenders and administers maintenance contracts, including drafting specifications and supporting documentation,
tendering, evaluating, procurement, holding pre-job meetings, inspecting, approving progress payments and preparing end
of job reports.
Liaise, communicate and make applications, as required, with governmental agencies and stakeholders in regards to
maintenance activities to insure adherence to all legislation and environmental standards.
Establish and maintain a variety of records such as specifications, drawings, design data, structure data sheets, route
plans, profiles, load capacity data and maintenance records, spare parts inventory records, equipment catalogue files,
reference material and technical literature.
Assist the manager by preparing operating budgets by assessing costs of planned projects and programs, analyzes
monthly variance statements and prepares maintenance activity summary reports. Utilizes computer programs to create
and update reports on inventory, maintenance scheduling and expenditures.
Provide technical advice, guidance and direction to IBEW and contractors' crews engaged in right-of-way, underground
and overhead transmission line maintenance.
Perform troubleshooting duties on transmission line equipment, rights-of-way and interprets test results and prepares
report summaries.
Coordinate and plan a variety of field construction activities including the assembly of detailed work planning packages.
Provide work preparation, job planning, technical and administrative support functions related to underground
transmission cable systems and rights-of-way.
What you bring
Diploma or Bachelor of Technology from a program nationally accredited by The Canadian Technology Accreditation
Board, or other training equivalent to Canadian Technology Standards.
The following disciplines will be considered: Geomatics / Environmental Engineering / Forest & Natural Areas
Management / Civil Engineering / Electrical with Power Option / Electrical Engineering / Construction Management /
Mechanical Engineering / Geographic Information Systems.
Must qualify for membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) as a
Technologist. Must hold valid Driver's License (Regular, full license [BC's Class 5]).
Must be eligible and able to work in Canada.
Where equivalent status is claimed, acceptable documentation must be provided by the applicant that will show
equivalency of courses taken. An official letter from your place of education is required confirming that course(s) taken are
considered equivalent to the BC Hydro educational requirements.

The starting salary for this position is currently $69,129 annually. The two year program includes annual salary increases,
and upon successful completion the approximate salary will be $84,104 annually, not including overtime.

LOCATION
Please note the headquarter of these roles will be in the following regions: Lower Mainland, Northern Interior, Southern
Interior and Vancouver Island.

ROTATIONS
Transmission Maintenance GTTs will undergo at least one mandatory rotation during their two-year training program.
Rotation locations are based on business needs and can be in any part of the province of BC. A typical candidate can
expect rotations to include offices in the North or Southern Interior, Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
Transmission headquarters are in Surrey, Burnaby, Nanaimo, Victoria, Vernon, Kamloops, Cranbrook, Terrace, Prince
George and Dawson Creek.
ORIENTATION TRAINING
Approximately 2-3 weeks Orientation at starting headquarters or the Trades Training Centre in Surrey.
As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a written test during the interview.
