Established in 1859, the University of Toronto\'s Department of Chemistry is one of the leading andrecognized institutions in Canada. Reporting to the CAO, the Graduate Coordinator is responsible for supporting students by advising them on program and/or course requirements; providing administrative support and handling sensitive and confidential information. The incumbent has also taken on the administrative support of hiringTeaching Assistantships in the department by and understanding and interpreting of the CUPE 3902 policies and the departmental guidelines.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program activities
  • Interpreting guidelines to determine the eligibility of graduate students for teaching assistantships
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Verifying the accuracy of course enrollment information
  • Maintaining course information on student information systems
  • Organizing, summarizing and circulating program and/or course evaluations
  • Preparing draft employment letters using templates
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a University setting in the areas of graduate program administration and/or graduate awards, program administration and/or graduate awards.
  • Experience with coordinating and providing administrative support of hiring Teaching Assistantships.
  • Demonstrated experience providing front-line student support and detailed information on programs, course requirements and other related information.
  • Experience interpreting, applying and communicating key policies of the CUPE 3902, Unit 1 Collective Agreement.
  • Experience using Student Information Systems, including ROSI. Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex academic policies and procedures to a variety of complex and/or unusual situations or problems.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Highly developed planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding student service; experience in making referrals to individuals in distress.
  • Ability to manage multiple and often conflicting priorities successfully.
  • Ability to show sound judgement in dealing with confidential information and a keen sensitivity to personal student issues.
