Familiarity with Topcon GPS and ability to operate various types of equipment will be considered an asset as well. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of conventional and modern methods for the use of road building and detailed earthworks.

Reporting directly to the Grading Foreman, The gradesman is responsible for setting, checking and field surveying grades at work sites as well as directing employees and offering site instruction in the absence of the foreman. Operation of heavy equipment is considered an asset but training will be provided for the appropriate candidate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reads and interprets construction drawings. Reads and understands grade stakes. The understanding and ability to use Topcon GPS equipment would be considered an asset. The ability to operate various construction equipment is considered an asset. Directs truck drivers to proper unloading location. Signals equipment operators on grade requirements. Checks grades using GPS, lasers, string line, levels, and boning rods. Assists other employees when required. Adheres to company policies, procedures, and directions regarding standards of workplace behaviour in completing job duties and assignments. Complies with the standards and procedures of North Star's health and safety manual and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Minimum 3 years experience either in the grading or earthworks industry. Active Construction Safety Training System (CSTS2020) Certification. Active Ground Disturbance Certification.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Must have own transportation. Must be able to work long hours and weekends. Must have CSA-approved safety boots.
