As a Grade Checker on our Earthworks team you turn survey lines into "on-grade" reality. You'll work beside dozers, graders, and excavators, setting laser levels, confirming slopes, and tackling hands-on labour that keeps the crew moving safely and efficiently.

HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE (RESPONSIBILITIES)
Set up & run rotary laser levels (and GPS rover when available) to give operators real-time grade.
Pull grades, read stakes, set hubs/lathe, and record finished elevations for daily QA/QC.
Operate small equipment (packer, skid-steer) if trained and required.
Perform tasks involving physical labour at construction sites
Wide experience in a variety of types of physical labour
Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations and general cleanup of debris and other waste materials
Signal heavy equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities
Load, unload or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations according to project plans or specifications
Measure, mark or record openings or distances to areas where construction work will be performed
Provides assistance to other craft workers
Work in adherence to Occupational Health and Safety legislation
Other duties may be assigned as required
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES? (REQUIREMENTS)
At least one construction season doing grade checking, survey assistance, or earthworks labour.
Confident reading slopes and elevations with a rotary laser level.
Valid Class 5 licence & reliable ride to yard or site.
Valid CSTS, H2S, First Aid & CPR, and OSSA certifications
General knowledge of raking, shoveling, housekeeping, etc.
Knowledge of the safe operation of basic hand and power tools
Knowledge of workplace safety policies and procedures including safe lifting and handling
Effective verbal and listening communication skills
Demonstrate sound work ethics
Physically able to perform job duties
Ability to pass Drug, Alcohol and 50lb Fitness to work test
