POSITION SUMMARY:
The Good Food Program Worker will engage and assist residents, as they cook. They will also assist with warming, and serving meals as needed. The ideal candidate will understand the issues related to domestic violence and trauma and be able to respond with sensitivity and non-judgement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise, and assist residents as they cook meals for themselves and/or their children
Actively engage with residents while they are in the kitchen/dining space
In coordination with management, design comprehensive nutrition education materials and workshops that address the specific dietary needs and challenges faced by survivors of violence against women and individuals who are marginalized
Lead interactive and engaging nutrition workshops for residents, covering topics such as meal planning, budget- friendly cooking, and nutrition basics
Offer one-on-one support to residents to address their personal dietary concerns, preferences and health goals
Organize and coordinate nutrition-related events, cooking classes, and wellness activities to promote a healthy lifestyle and community-building among residents
Conduct assessments and gather feedback from residents to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of nutrition initiatives, making adjustments as needed
Stay up -to-date on current research, trends and best practices in nutrition and wellness to continually enhance program offerings and support for residents
Ensure ingredients are available that meet the cultural and health needs of residents
Warm and serve pre-prepared food for residents who choose not to cook for themselves/their children
Ensure a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen
Coordinate with Mission Services' Food Services Department regarding the inventory of food and basic kitchen supplies
Ensure high standard of health and safety in the kitchen space
Attend staff meetings and training as required
Work safely, identify any health and safety concerns and report these to management, and follow Mission Services workplace health and safety policies and procedures at all times
Adhere to a strict confidentiality policy
Other duties as required to ensure the continuation of services to residents
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum diploma or degree in related field- ex. Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Assaulted Women and Children Counsellor/Advocate studies
Knowledge or education around healthy eating and dietary concerns is an asset
Experience working with volunteers and supervisory skills is an asset
Food Handlers Certification is an asset
Awareness of, and sensitivity to, the issues related to women and children experiencing trauma from violence and ability to work from a trauma-informed perspective
Understanding of the importance of residents being able to cook for themselves and their children, including culturally-specific meals
Ability to work sensitively with people of diverse backgrounds who experience trauma, poverty and/or discrimination
Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations
Confident decision maker and enthusiastic team player
Committed to upholding the organization's mission, values and standards
Fluency in French is an asset
HOURS OF WORK:
22.5 hours per week
Will be required to work Saturday to Monday
Will be required to work three (3) days per week with the ability to have a flexible schedule available to work both weekdays and weekends
COMPENSATION:
Wage starts at $22.74 per hour
*Benefits after 3-months of full-time continuous employment
*Group RRSP Employer matching up to 3% after one (1) year of continuous employment
