The Goalie Coach is responsible for the development, training, and mentorship of goaltenders within Evolution Hockey organization. This role focuses on improving technical skills, game awareness, and mental preparation while fostering a positive and competitive environment. The Goalie Coach will work closely with the Director of Goaltending and coaching staff to ensure goaltenders receive specialized instruction tailored to their development needs.
Key Responsibilities
Skill Development & Training
Design and implement goaltending-specific drills focusing on skating, positioning, save techniques, puck tracking, and rebound control.
Provide individualized feedback and corrective instruction to goalies based on their skill level and developmental needs.
Introduce modern goaltending techniques and strategies, ensuring alignment with current trends in the game.
Game & Practice Support
Observe goalies during practices and games, offering in-the-moment coaching and post-session breakdowns.
Work with the head coach to develop pre-game warm-up routines and in-game strategies.
Track goalie performance metrics and progress over time, using video analysis when applicable.
Mental & Tactical Preparation
Teach goalies how to manage pressure, build confidence, and develop a resilient mindset.
Work on reading plays, anticipating shots, and improving decision-making under game conditions.
Help goalies develop effective communication skills with teammates and defensemen.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with the coaching staff to integrate goalie-specific training into overall team development.
Provide progress updates and development plans for each goaltender. Engage with players, parents (if applicable), and staff to ensure a supportive training environment.
Beneficial Hard Skills (Technical Skills)
Advanced knowledge of goaltending techniques (e.g., butterfly style, post integration, lateral movement)
Ability to design and implement effective goalie training programs
Strong understanding of game strategy, positioning, and play reading
Video analysis skills for reviewing performance and identifying areas for improvement
Familiarity with performance tracking tools and goalie statistics
Knowledge of off-ice training methods for goaltender strength, flexibility, and conditioning
Experience working with goaltenders at [youth, junior, collegiate, professional] levels
Strong communication skills to provide clear instruction and feedback
Patience and adaptability to work with goalies of different skill levels and learning styles
Leadership and mentorship skills to develop confidence and resilience in goalies
High emotional intelligence to support athletes through challenges and setbacks

Qualifications & Additional Information
Previous experience as a goaltender and/or goalie coach at a junior or professional level.
Certification in coaching (e.g., Hockey Canada or equivalent) is an asset but not required.
This position may require travel for clinics, games and/or tournaments.
Flexible schedule, including days, evenings and weekends based on program needs.
