As a member of the Global Procurement Organization, the position will be responsible for defining supplier sourcing definition and strategic supplier selection for Ciena largest cost portfolio of Photonics Optics. Understand cost management and reduction in line with cost erosion market trends and margin targets, supply security, and overall supplier relationship development and collaboration. Candidate will be responsible for supply security and supply chain agility.
  • Fully responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing, coordinating, and evaluating major optical projects within the Procurement interface into our stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with and/or directs others to achieve business results and contributes precedent-setting innovations within R&D/PLM driving solutions for the most complex or risky business situations to develop an approved and qualified supply base, develop strategic partnerships that address our needs.
  • Creates measurable stakeholder value by delivery of market/supplier roadmaps while being a credible expert advisor to peers and internal/external customers while demonstrating success in accomplishing results via teamwork and leadership.
  • Being able to leverage and influence organizational culture to drive behavior change and gain stakeholder confidence at all levels by being unbiased and balanced in their approach
  • Participate in defining the optical supply chain architecture model, and participate in partner selection while adding value to require a seat at the table
  • Involved in the developing of next level management skills to bring a stronger degree of strategy while learning to manage a team of commodity managers in establishing a Portfolio/Commodity strategies and execution plan for long-term supplier development approach focused on delivering world class Quality, delivery and cost.
  • Define and Drive Supplier development, consolidation and/or localization initiatives for key commodities / regions, enabling improvements in overall total cost of doing business.
  • Develop, manage, and refresh individual and customized Optical technology, architecture and commodity sourcing strategies for each actively managed technology while guiding team on technical or business issues.
Contractual Support:
  • Look at new supplier technologies and assure NDA\'s are in place for technical discussions
  • Negotiate and execute master supply contracts and other critical agreements including but not limited to licensing agreements, SOWs, MOU\xe2\x80\x99s etc.
  • Ensure best in class purchase contract terms and conditions are established with vendor to minimize quality, cost, and agility exposure to Ciena. Will support business unit and Legal organizations with the negotiation of Legal Agreements to facilitate business requirements, including Supply, Development & Stocking Agreements.
Security/Continuity of Supply:
  • Innovates and champions change within the R&D and Operations teams where required while develops plans in concert with NPI and introduce new products and processes in a timely manner where agility programs are established on GA.
  • Must ensure security of supply and monitor the "hot issues" at both the macro and at the micro economic level within the supply base. Must be able to influence/negotiate suppliers for allocation, monitor supply stability all commodities levels, ensure no revenue impacting issues and be able to communicate any and all issues effectively and precisely to extended teams. Candidate must develop strategy for supply de-risking such as VMI, multi-sourcing, capacity commitment etc., and be able to work with various groups to determine optimal supply security strategy.
Cost Reduction:
  • Candidate will be held accountable for the overall cost reduction performance of the Photonics/Optical Commodity Group while ensuring cost targets are achieved. Key objective is to achieve corporate level cost reduction targets as well as product or margin level cost targets.
  • Track market trend and conditions to ensure capitalization on improving trends as well as communicate where conditions may pose deterioration to the costs of the business unit and take appropriate measure if required.
  • Identification of more creative methods to save cost, through re-design, supplier transfers, or other supply chain adjustments to improve overall total cost
Supplier Relationships:
  • Be accountable for driving key technology sessions with suppliers and their executives throughout the year and interface on a weekly basis usually
  • Candidate must foster strong working relationship with suppliers within his/her portfolio in order to maintain best in class overall support and supply to Ciena.
  • Candidate must enable frequent communication mechanisms with suppliers through business reviews to ensure constant alignment of priorities between supplier and Ciena while addressing any and all concerns from a support, quality and service level.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

Candidate must demonstrate the following skill sets:
  • 15+ years Technical Engineering within the Optical commodities and familiar with Photonics, WSS, ROADM and Amplifier technologies.
  • Understands Procurement and Strategic Supplier Relationship Management experience in Optics area
  • Highly collaborative, with ability to partner with diverse teams with potentially conflicting agendas while displays emotional intelligence, including strong listening capabilities
  • Clear sense of accountability, personally feels committed to customer & stakeholder satisfaction
  • Technical understanding of telecommunication products and manufacturing processes with strong analytical abilities to make decisions based on technical data
  • Strong communications skills, with ability to articulate business cases and present to an executive audience
  • Excellent negotiation skills, and foster strong supplier working relationships in order to ensure best in class overall support
  • Must be able to influence and support several cross functional groups such as R&D, Material Management, Component Engineering, Product Line Management and the NPI Program Office, Supply Chain and EMS partners
  • Strong communication skills both orally and written
