The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community-based organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous people in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area. The NFC is currently accepting applications for a full-time position as our Gladue Aftercare Program Worker

Objectives:



To provide urban Indigenous individuals involved in the justice system with supportive services and access to cultural activities and programming.

Responsibilities:

The Gladue Aftercare Program Worker will ensure all aspects of the Gladue Aftercare program are designed, planned, coordinated, delivered, maintained, and evaluated. In addition, will practice and role model cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed wholistic approach within the broader community.

The Gladue Aftercare Worker will:

Conduct initial intake assessments to determine the types of supports required.

Provide individuals with one-to-one and participant-based support services.

Work in collaboration with justice system officials, Native Inmate Liaison Officers, Aboriginal Liaison Officers and Parole and Probation Officers to support the mental health and cultural needs of service users.

Support service users in following through with the Gladue Report recommendations and/or court healing plan.

Wherever possible, visit Indigenous inmates and run programming in detention facilities to build relationships and plan for their release.

Offer land-based activities and facilitate sharing and healing circles that include teachings.

Provide awareness and ensure program access through a variety of outreach efforts and promotional activities within the community.

Develop and maintain professional relationships with officials throughout social service agencies and the justice system.

Work in collaboration with NFC programs to provide wrap-around services

Work in collaboration with other community agencies to find housing, employment, and other necessary supports.

Participate on external related committees, workshops and/or conferences as directed and approved by the Program Manager

Qualifications:



Minimum of 2 years post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, justice, legal studies, child and youth work, social work, or related field

Minimum three (3) years of related work experience working with youth (A combination of education and experience will be considered)

Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with emphasis on family violence, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement.

High proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Ability to work within the established policies and procedures of the NFC organization with the ability to work under pressure, prioritize work and meet tight deadlines.

Outstanding communication, analytical, problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills

Must have a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle & be willing to travel when required.??

Must possess current First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified.????

A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer.??

Salary:

$45,900.00 - $56,100.00 (with a 3-month probation)???

Benefits:

Health care spending account, 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 days of paid sick time, 5 paid wellness days, holiday closures.

Schedule:

8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday with evenings and weekends as needed??
