POSITION SUMMARY



Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, the GIS Coordinator will be responsible for the management of the Town's Geographical Information System (GIS). The primary focus of this position is to oversee the creation, maintenance, and utilization of spatial data to support various municipal departments and initiatives. The GIS Coordinator will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, manage GIS projects, and ensure the accuracy and accessibility of geographic data.

COMPENSATION



2025 wage range: $37.99 / hour to $41.51 / hour $3/hour shift premium for evenings and weekends 100% employer paid health and dental benefit premiums (excluding LTD) after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period $1000 annual health spending account Opportunity for a 5.75% increase effective January 1, 2026 Opportunity for a 5.75% increase effective January 1, 2027

JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES



Develop and maintain the municipal GIS database, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and completeness. Complete field surveys using GPS equipment for the purposes of collecting spatial data as well as assisting with the construction of capital and operational projects. Complete condition rating assessments of core assets to support the Town's Asset Management program. Regularly update spatial data layers and attribute information to reflect changes in the community. Conduct spatial analyses to support municipal planning, infrastructure development, and other relevant projects. Provide insights and recommendations based on GIS analysis to aid decision-making processes. Collaborate with other departments to understand GIS needs and tailor solutions to meet those requirements. Create and maintain high-quality maps and visualizations for various municipal purposes, such as public presentations, reports, and planning documents. Ensure maps are accessible and user-friendly for both internal and external stakeholders. Facilitate the sharing of GIS data and information among municipal departments. Provide training and support to staff members on GIS tools and applications. Stay updated on GIS industry trends and advancements, recommending, and implementing new technologies to enhance GIS capabilities. Manage GIS software licenses and hardware infrastructure.

REQUIREMENTS



Bachelor's Degree in Geomatics or Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology (or Civil Engineering Technology / Design and Drafting Technology). Registered, or eligible for registration as a certified technologist with ASET. A minimum of three (3) years' experience working with municipal infrastructure. Proficiency with GIS Software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), databases, mapping tools, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities that exist within a small organization. Possess a valid class 5 Alberta driver's license.
