We also proactively respond to environmental, conservation, animal, and human health risks and work to develop programs and deliver services to enhance protection in these areas.About Our OpportunityReporting to the Manager, Protected Areas Operations, you will support priority work in the protected areas program related to Geographical Information Systems (GIS).Primary AccountabilitiesYou will lead the development, review, and implementation of GIS projects related to protected areas planning and management. This will involve working collaboratively in a team environment, gathering and compiling information from staff to create functional products. You will create technical reports and manuals associated with projects and workflows.You will provide timely responses and prioritize requests for maps, data analysis, and other GIS support. You will be able to respond to requests within a short timeframe. You will be able to compile, edit, and maintain data in geographic and operational databases, including providing data summary and analysis.You will support GIS and non-GIS staff with the development and/or upgrade of ArcGIS Online applications. You may provide support for Field Maps and other ESRI software.You will work in a team environment with staff from this department and possibly other provincial departments. You may also interact with industry and non-government partners, community groups, conservation and recreation organizations, and others to advance departmental goals.Qualifications and ExperienceTo be successful in this role, you will have a diploma in GIS and a bachelor\'s degree in Environmental Management, Ecology, Land Conservation, Planning or a related natural resource management-based science.You will have advanced knowledge and experience of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) - specifically ArcPro 3.x. You will have strong analytical, cartographic, data management, and problem-solving skills. You will have experience in creating interactive maps and authoring applications in ArcGIS Online. You will have experience in creating technical reports and manuals.Other assets include experience with database design, spatial analysis, LiDAR, Model Builder, Python and Arcade programming. Knowledge of other ESRI software such as Experience Builder, Field Maps, Survey 1,2,3, and StoryMaps is an asset. Knowledge of conservation planning is also an asset.Experience working in land conservation or protected areas and a practical understanding of current issues and best practice approaches in protected areas planning and management are assets. Familiarity with the Nova Scotia Protected Areas Program is also an asset.You will have superior written and verbal communication skills. You will be self-directed, have excellent problem solving and organizational skills, and have a high attention for detail. You must also be highly proficient with computer word processing and spreadsheet software.
