Job Summary:

The Giftshop Cashier is the frontline ambassador for the Sou'Wester Gift Shop, responsible for providing friendly, efficient, and accurate service to all customers. This role requires a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to handle transactions with precision in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about helping visitors find the perfect memento of their trip to Peggy's Cove.

Key Responsibilities:

Accurately process sales transactions using a POS system, including cash, credit/debit card, and other payment methods. Greet customers warmly and provide excellent customer service, assisting with product inquiries and recommendations. Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting checkout area and sales floor. Assist with stocking shelves, merchandising products, and ensuring displays are attractive and well-maintained. Handle customer returns and exchanges in accordance with store policy. Be knowledgeable about the products offered in the gift shop, including local artisan crafts, Sou'Wester branded merchandise, and general souvenirs. Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy by reporting discrepancies or low stock levels. Adhere to all store policies and procedures, including those related to cash handling and security. Collaborate with team members to ensure a smooth and efficient operation. Assist with opening and closing procedures as required.

Qualifications:

Previous experience in a retail or customer service role, particularly as a cashier, is an asset. Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail for accurate cash handling. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume tourist environment. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry merchandise up to 20 lbs. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak season. A genuine interest in local culture, crafts, and providing a positive experience for visitors to Peggy's Cove. Must be reliable, punctual, and possess a strong work ethic.
