Overview

The role of Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s Technical Services Unit (TSU) is to provide technical expertise and consistency across all of Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s Business Units (BU) which involves the development and governance of standards, specifications, and procedures. TSU works in conjunction with other Service Units to support the business objectives and operational requirements of the BUs.

TSU is currently seeking a Geotechnical Technologist. On behalf of Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s BUs, TSU manages a comprehensive integrity management program, which includes facility integrity, pipeline integrity, technical services, geotechnical, Project Management Office (PMO) and Safety Security and Emergency Response.

As a key contributing member of the team, the Geotechnical Technologist is responsible for technical analysis of in-line inspection (ILI) inertial measurement unit (IMU) data for Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s 15 000 km of managed pipelines in the Western Sedimentary Basin, Rocky Mountains and Interior Plateau of British Columbia.

Responsibilities

  • Plot and analyze raw IMU data for individual geohazards;
  • Screen, review, and classification of bending strains and pipeline movements identified in 3rd party reports;
  • Coordinate activities for obtaining 3rd party raw IMU data, bending strain and movement reports;
  • Direct 3rd party vendor bending strain reviews for Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s ILI IMU program;
  • Review and input into the ILI IMU program;
  • Maintain ILI IMU feature library;
  • Coordinate maintenance and continuous improvement of tools for plotting raw IMU data;
  • Special projects as directed by the Geotechnical Supervisor;
  • Maintenance of the pipeline integrity tracking system (PITS) ILI IMU database;
  • Liaise with the Pipeline Integrity team and 3rd party ILI vendors to provide ILI and pipeline integrity subject matter expertise; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Job Qualifications
  • Demonstrated industry experience with ILI IMU;
  • Experience in landslide, or geohazard related fields a benefit;
  • 5-10 years of experience;
  • Beneficial to have a working knowledge of:
  • Air photo/orthophoto/LiDAR terrain analysis;
  • Landslide/geohazard assessments;
  • Ground monitoring technologies such as surveys, slope inclinometers, and remote-sending instrumentation (SAA, GNSS);
  • Pipeline In-line Inspection data (IMU, GEO);
  • Pipeline Geotechnique;
  • Hydrotechnical assessments;
  • Working knowledge of industry best practices, codes, standards and regulations in Canada and USA;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently given appropriate guidance, and able to prioritize multiple tasks on tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrate critical analytical and strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Willing to travel throughout Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s pipeline asset locations several days per year; and
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
