Your work environment at EXP In this role, you will be a part of the Earth and Environment team, of the Western Canada team, based in Abbotsford, British Columbia office.
What a day at EXP has in store for you Planning/Leadership

  • Provide Technical Leadership
  • Establish Operational goals and objectives which correspond to EXP\xe2\x80\x99s mission, vision, values and goals.
  • Develop a strategy and implement plans to achieve Operations goals and objectives.
  • Review and continuously improve relevant procedures applicable to the Operation.
  • Participate in management meetings.
Staff Development
  • Develop, recruit and lead your team
  • Provide a cooperative work environment for all staff which is consistent with EXP\'s values.
  • Identify and hire staff to meet growth and utilization targets for the Operation.
  • Oversee and complete staff performance appraisals and salary reviews.
  • Identify ongoing training needs of staff and assist staff by facilitating the training process. Assist in staff training where appropriate.
  • Host regular meetings with staff working under your supervision.
  • Monitor and take necessary action to resolve potential disputes that may arise from time to time between your staff and/or clients, or other staff.
  • Supervise, review, guide, coach and mentor staff under your supervision.
Business Development
  • Establish business development strategies directed at obtaining project work and developing new client relationships.
  • Promote EXP services to both existing and new clientele.
  • Assist in the identification and development of new market or client opportunities.
  • Attract quality clients and retain their business by instilling sound project management practices.
  • Help to identify areas of potential improvement and/or corrective measures.
  • Set the groundwork to help position the Operation to move forward, grow and remain secure and profitable.
Financial Performance
  • Monitor and report on staff utilization and ensure targets are met.
  • Identify and obtain budgetary approval for major capital and project expenditures required by the Operation.
  • Establish annual financial budgets for the Operation for review by the Vice President, Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Conduct regular review of the financial status of the Operation with respect to achieving budget targets.
  • Monitor the Accounts Receivable status of all client accounts for projects managed by staff working under your supervision. Assist in meeting Accounts Receivable targets.
  • Participate in and perform other technical and administrative tasks as required from time to time.

What your experience looks like
  • P.Eng. or P.Geo Designation from British Columbia;
  • A member in good standing with EGBC
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Geotechnical, Civil or Geological Engineering with a post-graduate degree preferred;
  • 7 - 10 years of relevant experience in Geotechnical engineering, preferably predominantly obtained in a consulting engineering environment;
  • Experience in the Fraser Valley desired
  • 5 years experience as a Project Manager in a geotechnical investigation, design and construction control capacity;
  • Management of teams consisting of intermediate and junior professionals and technicians;
  • Proven business development skills to generate geotechnical services on projects and to take on new clients;
  • Experience with complex geotechnical investigations and design work;
  • Proven mentoring of junior engineering staff;
  • Strong verbal and written (English) communication;
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact when interacting with fellow staff, clients, consultants and contractors;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including multitasking and prioritizing;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Advanced computer analysis experience
