With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.Why Sudbury?Mining operations in Copper Cliff near Sudbury date back to the late 1800s. Current operations include several underground mines and open pit operations are in plan. Mineral processing plants include a concentrator, smelter and refinery. Tailings operations date back to 1929 and Vale have been among industry leaders in employing geotechnical practice and governance to manage a very large and complex tailings facility. The Copper Cliff tailings team includes senior engineers to engineers in training. This position will provide opportunities for hands-on involvement with geotechnical and hydrotechnical engineering problems and dam safety governance.A key benefit to working at the Sudbury Operations is that most residential areas are within a 30 minute drive; even during rush hour. Sudbury is known as the "Hub of the North and is a thriving community with a vibrant arts, music and restaurant scene and is known for its hospitality and welcoming nature. Sudbury has an avid outdoor recreational community including trail riding, several types of paddling, cross country skiing and hiking. Several trail systems are within 15 minutes of our operations and various provincial parks are within an hour drive.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Geotechnical and Tailings Engineering Student, for a 8 month term to join our Tailings and Dams group in our Ontario Operations in Copper Cliff; close to Sudbury Ontario.Additionally, in this position you will:
