Duties
Conduct comprehensive genetic assessments by collecting detailed family histories and medical information from patients.
Interpret and explain complex genetic testing results clearly and empathetically to patients and their families.
Develop personalized risk management plans based on genetic findings, including recommendations for surveillance, lifestyle changes, or further testing.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams such as physicians, laboratory scientists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
Educate patients about inheritance patterns, potential health implications, and available preventive or therapeutic options.
Stay current with advancements in genetics research and update counseling practices accordingly.
Document patient interactions thoroughly in medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Experience
Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program or equivalent qualification.
Certification as a Board Certified Genetic Counselor (ABGC) or equivalent credential.
Prior experience providing genetic counseling in clinical settings is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of human genetics, genomics technologies, and inheritance patterns.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts in accessible terms.
Ability to work empathetically with diverse patient populations while managing sensitive information professionally.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
