The group is replacing one position and adding an additional position. The role requires a full spectrum of general surgical services appropriate to a secondary care centre, including endoscopy. Regular OR, endoscopy and minor procedure time are offered. The group is willing to provide some surgical assists and can help mentor a newer graduate. Physicians have an opportunity to work as a preceptor with medical graduates and residents. Compensation is currently Fee for Service, with an estimated income range of $350,000 to $450,000 annually. Your annual income will depend solely on your own clinical output. In addition, specialist receive on-call stipends and other incentives as available through the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia.Deadline for expression of interest in this position is June 14, 2024.YRH has 100 inpatient beds and is a primary and secondary care hospital and designated district trauma centre. The OR laparoscopic suites were newly renovated in 2023.Responsibilities

  • work a full scope of practice as a general surgeon
  • participate in call shifts
  • provide support to your own site and to others in Western Zone if required, which includes day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
  • be responsible to the Zone Department Head for Surgery for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of Nova Scotia Health Authority

  • 1:4 to 1:5 on-call requirement
