Parks and Roads Services is responsible for services and assets that support mobility and activity in our city. The branch ensures that streets and roads, infrastructure assets, parks, trees and boulevards remain accessible, attractive and safe. Work includes repairs and maintenance, seasonal clean ups, signals and street lights, parking services and traffic safety, just to name a few.
The General Supervisor, Parks and Open Space Specialized Services, reporting to the Director, Parks and Urban Forestry, leads several key areas within Edmonton's green spaces and will oversee more than 400 unionized staff. This work includes the play spaces, furnishings, and site servicing teams, which maintain public amenities like playgrounds, outdoor fitness areas, spray parks, skate parks, benches, picnic tables, and handle litter pickup and pavilion operations.
Additionally, the General Supervisor will oversee the City's sports fields, enhanced landscape services, and open space construction teams, managing over 1,200 active spaces. The Centre City team proactively addresses downtown issues like special waste collection, site servicing, turf mowing, horticulture maintenance, graffiti removal, pressure washing, and inspections. The trails and encampment team maintains the city-wide trail system, including brushing paths, snow removal, mitigating tree and fire risks, and cleaning up encampment sites.
What will you do?
Engage and support staff in developing action plans to enhance communication, solve problems creatively, promote integration and support excellence
Ensure staff are empowered, have the competencies, and are well equipped to perform their roles
Strategically identify and allocate necessary resources, including staffing and budget, for the successful execution of projects and programs
Ensure the prudent and effective use of financial and human resources, determine and review annual budget requirements, and proactively monitor performance and financial reporting
Support Program Managers in meeting Service Level Agreement targets
Ensure strict adherence to all Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), ENVISO environmental management system, procurement guidelines, project, program management methodologies, and all other relevant City policies and procedures throughout the area
Apply the GBA+ process to the development and review of policies, practices and frameworks
Qualifications
:Knowledge or training and/or education in Management, Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Engineering, or other related disciplines
Experience in a leadership role within a large, complex unionized organization
Knowledge in landscape operations management with experience overseeing service delivery
Combinations of education and experience will be considered
Assets:
Experience working with large seasonal operations and staff change over
Additional certification or coursework/training in financial management, public works administration, change management, or other leadership training

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:
1 permanent, full-time position.
Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and a parks operational yard
Salary: (Annually) $120,328.53 - $150,408.62
