Heartland Housing Foundation serves over 900 households in Fort Saskatchewan & Strathcona County as a not-for-profit housing management body and the administrators for provincially funded rent supplement programs. We operate 12 properties, including affordable lodges, rent-geared-to-income seniors housing, and near market housing for all ages.

Position Summary



Join the Heartland Housing Foundation frontline team as a General Service Worker! In this role, you'll be crucial in supporting our food services and housekeeping departments. You'll cover shifts for Dining Room Attendants, Kitchen Aides, Dishwashers, and Housekeepers as needed, ensuring our operations run smoothly. Your duties will be carried out following established standards and guidelines specific to the facility or building where you're assigned. Shift differentials and shift premiums are available based on your scheduled shifts and hours

Located at Dr. Turner Lodge, 9422 94 Avenue, Fort Saskatchewan On-Site Parking available for all employees

Responsibilities



The General Service Worker may perform a variety of duties that are specific to, or combined with, the following roles. The specific responsibilities may include some of these duties but are not limited to these duties.

Kitchen Aide

Prepare Breakfast and Salads:

Prepare and serve breakfast according to Chef's meal plan. Monitor and replenish salad bar, assist with meal preparation, serving, and monitoring food levels.

Clean and Maintain Kitchen:

Perform daily cleaning of kitchen, cooler, storage, and dining rooms. Monitor inventory and assist with storage activities.

Communicate with Kitchen Staff:

Actively communicate with the Chef, Cook, and/or Baker regarding food service operations, preparation, and equipment needs.
Dining Room Attendant

Set Up Dining Room:

Prepare the dining room for meal service, set tables, prepare condiments, and ensure equipment readiness.

Provide Meal Service Support:

Assist residents with menu options, take orders, and serve food and beverages. Monitor and replenish food amounts during meals.

Clean Dining Area:

Clean and sanitize the dining room after meal service, including tables, chairs, equipment, and floors.
Housekeeper

Thorough Cleaning:

Ensure common areas, administrative areas, and resident rooms are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and polished as per schedule.

Laundry Duties:

Perform laundry duties such as washing, drying, folding, and putting away linens.

Maintain Stock:

Monitor and replenish stock of toiletries and cleaning products. Respond to alarms and emergencies appropriately.
Dishwasher

Clean Utensils and Equipment:

Wash, sort, and clean dishes, utensils, pots, and pans by handwashing or using the dishwasher.

Maintain Cleanliness:

Perform daily cleaning in the kitchen and dining room, sanitizing, sweeping, and dusting.

Provide Dining Room Support:

Serve and clear tables and dishes as required. Communicate with kitchen staff regarding operations and supplies.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship

Safety Compliance:

Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Cleanliness and Hygiene:

Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, adhering to health standards at all times.

Requirements



High School Diploma is preferred One (1) year of experience in a customer service, food service, housekeeping, custodial, or related environment is preferred Completion of a current and acceptable criminal records check for the vulnerable sector as required by the Protection for Persons in Care Act and the Accommodation Standards and Licensing Act is mandatory Attainment of a Food Safety Certificate is required Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and internet usage is preferred First Aid and CPR certification may be required

Working Conditions



Ongoing customer service interaction and communication with staff, site residents and visitors Physical activity involving walking, standing, bending and lifting Exposure to high heat or cold temperatures. (Cooler, freezer, oven and stove) Must be able to lift, push and pull equipment and supplies in accordance with the position's Physical Demands Analysis document Operation of kitchen and housekeeping equipment is required Must handle and work with various cleaning solvents and chemicals Occasionally may be required to handle, clean, dispose, or move objects or materials and perform the cleanup of blood, infectious materials and/or other biohazards Shifts may change according to organizational needs and occasional overtime may be required Occasional exposure to unpleasant or abusive individuals
