Job Description

As part of its continued expansion, Winpak Division is seeking a growth-minded, strategic, and commercially astute

General Manager (GM)

to lead its Winnipeg operation, driving both operational efficiency and commercial growth. Reporting to the President, Winpak Division, the General Manager will oversee Winpak's operations in Winnipeg providing leadership to over 900 employees.



This is a newly created role designed to unify operations, marketing, and business strategy under one leader and will require equal parts business acumen, operational excellence, and commercial insight. With a $100M expansion underway - including the introduction of a new, high-capacity Cast Extrusion line--the GM will play a critical role in ensuring the facility is well-positioned to deliver maximum returns on this significant investment.



Beyond operational stewardship, the GM will actively partner with commercial teams to align manufacturing capabilities with market needs, ensuring that forecasting, production planning, and sales strategies are tightly coordinated. The GM will be responsible for fostering a commercially focused and results-driven mindset, developing and owning the division's go-to-market strategy that clarifies how Winpak will compete effectively, differentiate through value, improve customer engagement and avoid commoditization. The GM must be a strategic thinker who sees not only where the business stands today, but where it must go to secure long-term competitiveness and growth.


Key Responsibilities




Commercial & Strategic Leadership:

Develop and own Winpak Division's go-to-market strategy. Lead cross-functional planning cycles ensuring goals are clear, priorities are aligned, and commercial initiatives are connected to operational delivery. Drive the integration of commercial strategy into operational decision-making, ensuring business readiness for future growth.

Operations Management

: Oversee complex, multi-faceted operations, including production, maintenance, process improvements, supply chain, and R&D across the operation.

Efficiency Improvements

: Implement best practices to optimize processes, reduce costs, and improve resource management.

Cost Reduction

: Identify opportunities to reduce direct and indirect costs through workflow enhancements, waste reduction, and improved material utilization.

Capacity Growth

: Ensure the sites and equipment are positioned to scale with business growth.

Leadership Development

: Ensure leadership in key operational areas is strong, driving quality and compliance improvements.

Safety and Excellence

: Champion a health and safety excellence strategy across the division.

Cultural Change

: Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

Commercial Alignment

: Balance operational capabilities with commercial needs, working closely with sales and market directors to match production capacity with demand.

Team Development

: Provide leadership and accountability to direct and indirect reports, ensuring performance is continuously measured and improved.

The General Manager is a seasoned executive with robust operational expertise and commercial acumen, adept at managing a large P&L - leading operations while driving business growth. The ideal candidate excels in both strategic planning and hands-on leadership, aligning teams, consistently improving processes, defining go-to-market strategies and fostering a performance-driven, results-oriented culture.



With exceptional communication skills, they will align cross-functional teams by clearly setting goals and expectations, which will enhance productivity and operational efficiency. Qualifications and Experience




Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, engineering, or a related discipline; MBA preferred. P&L responsibility and experience managing large complex operations with strong safety performance. Strong operational expertise and commercial mindset to drive business growth while balancing production capabilities. Track record leading initiatives focused on operational excellence, cost reduction, and process optimization to drive innovation and efficiency. Experience in unionized environments.
