The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and daily operations of the Lord Beaverbrook Rink. This includes overseeing staff, facility bookings, financial management, community relations, and the long-term development of the facility. The General Manager works closely with the Board of Trustees, who oversee the facility, to ensure that operations align with the organization's vision and goals. The ideal candidate will be motivated, organized, personable, and committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-run recreational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Leadership & Supervision
o Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise staff.
o Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Financial & Administrative Management
Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
Oversee payroll, invoicing, and expense tracking.
Prepare financial reports and provide regular updates to the Board of Trustees.
Facility Operations
Coordinate bookings for ice, floor, dressing rooms, conference rooms, and special events.
Manage and maintain facility contracts, ensuring terms are met.
Schedule and oversee maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects.
Ensure facility safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulations.
Community Relations & Marketing
Serve as the primary point of contact for patrons, renters, contractors, and partners.
Secure sponsorships and advertising opportunities to support facility programs.
Apply for grants and funding opportunities to enhance programs and infrastructure.
Work collaboratively with patrons, renters, and partners like the City of Saint John
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Recreation Management, Sport Administration, Business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience managing staff and volunteers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with technology and financial software.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build positive relationships with staff, patrons, the Board of Trustees, and community partners.
Experience in facility management or recreation programming is an asset.
Ability to work flexible hours and be on call for troubleshooting as required.
