Position Summary
The General Manager will lead and oversee all aspects of our residential construction operations from planning, quality control, and customer handover. They will ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, to our quality standards and regulatory compliance. This role will also set the strategic direction, manage the P&L for the division, lead teams, and foster growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute business strategy for the residential construction division aligned with company goals.
Manage full project lifecycle: land acquisition/development (where applicable), pre-construction planning, procurement, construction execution, quality control, and handover.
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cost control, schedule management, risk mitigation and change-order processes.
Lead and mentor senior managers (construction managers, project managers), office and field teams, subcontractors and vendors; nurture a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with residential building codes, safety regulations, environmental standards and industry best practices.
Drive growth by identifying new market opportunities, improving operational efficiencies and enhancing customer satisfaction.
Provide regular reporting to senior leadership - performance metrics, pipeline status, financial performance, lessons learned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration or related field. (Advanced degree preferred)
Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in residential construction (or related construction) with at least 5 years in a senior leadership/general management role.
Proven track record of delivering residential construction projects, on budget and to quality standards.
Strong financial acumen -- responsible for P&L, budgeting, forecasting, cost control.
Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills (owners, clients, municipalities, subcontractors).
Deep knowledge of construction methods, materials, codes and best practices for residential building.
Demonstrated ability to lead change, drive process improvements and scale operations.
