Reporting to the COO, the General Manager will be responsible for the development and oversight of varied underground mining and construction projects in the region. The General Manager will be involved from the business development, proposal, and contract negotiation stages, through to project execution and successful closeout. Their scope of duties will cover the potash, gold, base metal, and uranium mining sectors across the prairie provinces with the goal of diversifying our portfolio of work in the region while also diversifying the scope of services being offered. The Regional Manager will establish constructive relationships and liaise with stakeholders - including clients, suppliers, and regulatory agencies. Based from our Saskatoon office, the Regional Manager will have P&L responsibilities for business in the region and will set the strategic direction of the business within the guidelines set by Procon. The position is also responsible for managing equipment resources, human resources, HSE programs, engineering and technical services, and contract management within the region.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The General Manager is a key member of the operations' team and is accountable for a set portfolio of projects - initially focused in the Saskatchewan and Manitoba markets. Specific responsibilities are:

  • Responsible for the overall growth and financial viability of the division.
  • Develop a sustainable safety culture founded on the core values of the company - resulting in the delivery of safe, well executed projects.
  • Support and be an advocate for DEI initiatives.
  • Leverage external stakeholder relationships to expand Procon's footprint and scope of business through the potash, precious metal, base metal, and uranium mining sectors.
  • Diversify the scope of underground contracting services being offered to help grow the business.
  • Build a cohesive multi-functional team that can offer a full suite of services to the mines in the region.
  • Develop and support site project management and give clear direction and delegation of authority to ensure they can meet their goals and objectives.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and forecasts, and ensure that project objectives are met.
  • Liaise with clients, joint venture partners, regulatory agencies, and develop external relationships.
  • Be proactive to the opportunities and challenges that arise in the business.
  • Liaise and maintain an open line of communication with internal stakeholders at the corporate office and Equipment Division to ensure supporting functions - such as HR, Safety, Project Controls, Supply Chain, Finance - are meeting the needs of the division.
  • Be the "face" of the company by promoting Procon, engaging with client management, and actively working to continuously improve our performance and grow our business.
  • Maintain an open dialogue with existing and prospective clients - travelling to each project on a regular basis.
  • Travel is required given the size of the region and responsibilities - often on short notice.
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:
  • A mine engineering or geosciences degree is preferred. Alternatively, a relevant technical degree coupled with a broad practical background in underground mine operations or projects will also be considered.
  • Registered Professional Engineer, Geoscientist, or Technologist licensed to practice in Canada and/or the USA
  • A minimum 10 to 15 years of combined technical and operational experience in a mine operation or contracting setting is required - preferably with a broad range of underground experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with P&L responsibility, developing a strong safety culture, and building cohesive, diversified teams is essential.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills are a must.
