The General Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the H&R Block franchise in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. This role oversees all aspects of office operations, financial management, staff supervision, and client service delivery. The General Manager ensures the franchise achieves its financial, operational, and customer-satisfaction goals while maintaining compliance with H&R Block corporate standards and applicable tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & People Management
Recruit, train, and supervise tax preparers.
Lead seasonal hiring and onboarding processes.
Foster a high-performance culture focused on accuracy, professionalism, and service excellence.
Conduct regular performance reviews and implement development plans.
Maintain open communication and alignment across all team members.
2. Operational Management
Oversee daily operations to ensure smooth client flow and efficient service delivery.
Develop staff schedules and manage workload balancing during peak periods.
Maintain compliance with corporate procedures, data security, and confidentiality requirements.
Monitor quality control and resolve client concerns promptly.
Coordinate with H&R Block corporate support and IT as needed.
3. Financial Oversight
Manage office P&L, including budgeting, expense tracking, and revenue reporting.
Forecast seasonal revenue and staffing needs.
Monitor performance against key financial metrics and implement corrective actions when required.
4. Business Development & Community Engagement
Identify and implement strategies to attract and retain clients.
Oversee local marketing and community outreach initiatives.
Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners and organizations.
Promote additional services such as bookkeeping and payroll.
5. Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure adherence to all corporate policies, CRA requirements, and ethical standards.
Oversee internal controls and audit processes.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax-related changes and training requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of management or leadership experience.
Diploma or degree in Business, Accounting, or related field (equivalent experience accepted).
Demonstrated success in staff leadership, performance management, and client service.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with H&R Block or similar tax software an asset.

Pay: $90,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
