Job Description


With The Embassy VFX\xe2\x80\x99s continued growth and success, we are looking to hire an Operations Manager/ Head of Studio to join our expanding team. As a newly created role, you will be responsible to work closely with the President/CEO as well as the Corporate Controller and studio\xe2\x80\x99s management team to drive the planning, organization and control of key operational activities. You\'ll also work in close partnership with management teams of external partners to achieve success for the organization as a whole. You set and monitor operational targets for the studio and drive activities that identify and achieve the studio strategic objectives. As a core member of the Studio Leadership Team you will also play an integral role in building studio culture and aligning studio operations, processes and communications. About The Embassy The Embassy is an independent Canadian Oscar-nominated, VFX and production house, specializing in live-action production, post-production, and animation for feature films, television, and commercials. Core Responsibilities:
  • Identify, oversee, and implement daily business operations
  • Facilitate and attend all management meetings and aid in key decision making
  • Take initiative in anticipating and responding to change
  • Manage the studio operations, culture, budget, and growth
  • Assist in advising on recruitment and HR admin, including employee onboarding and offboarding, benefits administration, and performance evaluation
  • Purchase and maintain inventory of studio assets and equipment
  • Oversee IT and Pipeline operations and supervisors
  • Oversee and manage core leadership team
  • Act as a role model for employees and foster teamwork, employee morale, motivation, and open communication
  • Challenge employees to innovative ways to work and identify measurable milestones to keep projects
  • Work with the Head of IT and Head of Pipeline to ensure the facility has required technical resources and equipment to complete commercials and tv shows on time and within budget.
  • Adept in project management and workflow tools
  • Plan, organize, and run key operational activities of the studio teams and set clear targets to achieve studio objectives.
  • Work closely with the HR team and Finance in defining the future shape and changes for the workforce including: outsourcing, insourcing, internal development resources, external development resources/external partners and contingency workforce management.
Finance
  • Contribute as requested to budgets and spending and see they are managed appropriately
  • In coordination with P&C and Finance, monitor salary benchmarks/budgets across all departments and keep them up to date with market trends / company performance
  • Work with CEO to ensure downtime is minimized and steady flow of revenue is coming into facility to ensure profitability
  • Work with the Head of Production to ensure shows are accountable for their margins and are supplying the relevant financial reports for Senior Management.
Talent Management/People and Culture
  • Be a champion for company culture and The Embassy on the whole
  • Ensure The Embassy remains competitive within the marketplace to attract the right talent
  • Monitor and support recruitment efforts in hiring and attracting strategic hires to Vancouver
  • Work with People and Culture to provide plans for succession within the company, with the ethos of promoting from within.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Provide effective communication to the studio on company updates
  • Partner with HR on ensuring that all employees are operating in line with the company values and ethos
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Business Management, Business Administration preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience as a General Manager, EP or Operations Manager in the visual effects industry or other creative industry
  • Thorough knowledge of post-production pipelines and a general knowledge of physical production.
  • Deep understanding of business functions such as finance, marketing, and HR
  • Intermediate-to-advanced skills with G Suite for Business, Excel, and other MS Office applications
