Every Team Member at Parkhill Meats plays a key role in our cold-chain logistics operation. This opportunity plays a crucial role in supporting the production operations, working under the supervision of a skilled Butcher to assist with various tasks related to meat preparation, packaging, customer service, and slaughtering.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Slaughtering Assistance: Assist in the slaughtering process by handling live animals, stunning them in accordance with humane practices, and preparing them for processing. Follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols to ensure the humane treatment of animals and compliance with regulatory requirements.
2. Meat Preparation: Assist with the cutting, trimming, and portioning of meat products according to established procedures and customer requests. Use knives, saws, and other cutting tools under the guidance of the butcher to prepare a variety of meat cuts.
3. Cleaning and Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the butcher shop or meat processing area by regularly cleaning work surfaces, equipment, and utensils. Follow hygiene protocols to ensure food safety and prevent cross-contamination.
4. Packaging and Labeling: Assist in packaging meat products for display, sale, or storage. Properly label packages with accurate product information, including weight, price, and expiration date, to facilitate inventory management and customer selection.
5. Inventory Management: Help with receiving, storing, and rotating meat inventory to ensure freshness and minimize waste. Assist in monitoring stock levels and replenishing supplies as needed to support daily operations.
6. Customer Service: Provide friendly and helpful customer service by assisting shoppers with meat selection, answering inquiries about cuts, cooking methods, and pricing, and fulfilling special orders or requests.
7. Equipment Operation: Learn to operate and maintain meat processing equipment and machinery, such as meat slicers, grinders, and scales, following safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
8. Assisting Butcher: Support the butcher in various tasks, including preparing specialty cuts, assembling meat displays, and organizing storage areas. Follow instructions carefully and demonstrate willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
9. Compliance and Safety: Adhere to health and safety regulations, food handling guidelines, and workplace policies to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and customers. Report any safety hazards or concerns to the butcher or supervisor promptly.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience in a retail or food service environment is an asset.
- Previous experience is not required, experience with barn animals or similar environments is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of meat cuts, food safety principles, and sanitation practices.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for handling knives and equipment safely.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and team members.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow instructions, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Physical stamina and strength to lift and move heavy meat carcasses and containers.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
