JOB SUMMARY
The role of the General Accountant will be to perform full-cycle accounting, financial analysis, and administrative support to the Accounting Team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages, including the preparation of Financial Statements with accordance to Canadian accounting GAAP standards.
Collaborate with the Construction and Development teams to maintain, budgets/forecasts & tracking of overall performance.
Assist in development of business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Prepare month end accounting procedures, journal entries, maintain accurate general ledger accounts, AP/AR adjustments, supporting working papers and month end reconciliations.
Preparation of journal entries and bank reconciliations on a timely basis to ensure financial reports and statements are accurate.
Maintain organized working paper with regards to mortgages, management fees, sales and other intercompany transactions.
Conduct financial variance analysis on monthly reports to assist management.
Prepare HST Returns and ITC Filings on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
Manage day to day banking and assist in preparation of cash flows.
Provide support and prepare year end working papers and supporting schedules to facilitate the auditing process.
Understand the process of accounts payable, accounts receivable & property administration and help liaise with these respective departments.
Ad-hoc projects and analysis as required by senior finance staff.
Be a team player and rise above to assist with reasonable duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Completion of an accounting degree or diploma.
2 years of full cycle accounting experience, real estate is a preferred.
Working towards a CPA designation is a strong asset.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Excellent communication & interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team & other departments.
Knowledge and experience related to technology and accounting ERP systems (Yardi preferred).
Proactive, detail oriented and strong analytical skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities within structured deadlines and deliverables.
Highly organized and self-motivated.
