Games Manager
for the NL Summer Games scheduled for 2026 in Corner Brook.
Reporting directly to the Chair of the Local Host Committee, duties and responsibilities of the Games Manager will include, but not be limited to, providing a leadership role to volunteers, liaising with stakeholders, and ensuring the successful execution of all operational and strategic elements of the Games.
Duties and Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:
- Provide guidance, direction, and support to the Host Committee, sub-committees, volunteers, and staff in the general organization and delivery of the NL Games.
- Act as a liaison between the Executive Committee, volunteers, staff, and external partners.
- Review and abide by NL Games policies, procedures, and operational manuals. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all roles and responsibilities related to Games planning and execution.
- In collaboration with the Games Coordinator, review and edit job descriptions for sub-committee directors and any additional paid staff roles.
- Ensure that the Executive Committee maintains ongoing communication with the Director of Sports and Venues to address venue readiness, safety, accessibility, liability, and other logistical matters.
- Support the Host Committee in developing and implementing fundraising strategies to secure additional revenue beyond the $200,000 operating grant provided by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Represent the Games Office at Host Committee meetings as an ex-officio member, attending all scheduled meetings and contributing to planning discussions.
- Facilitate partnerships with local organizations, municipal representatives, and other stakeholders to support the delivery of successful Games.
- Promote a culture of safety, respect, and volunteer engagement across all levels of the organizing team.
- Champion diversity, inclusion, and accessibility throughout all aspects of the Games planning and operations.
To succeed in this role, the successful candidate must have relevant post-secondary education in recreation, sport management, event planning, or a related field. Experience managing large-scale community, cultural, or sporting events. Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, committees, and multiple stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Experience in fundraising, sponsorships, or grant applications are considered assets. Knowledge of municipal, provincial, and sport-sector operations is preferred.
Working Conditions
This position is full-time contractual and will expire shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 NL Summer Games. The primary office is in Corner Brook; however, some travel may be required. Occasionally, evening and/or weekend work will be required based on events and planning schedules. This position will require occasional lifting, bending, pushing and/or pulling, as event setup duties and site visits will take place.
