Game Operations Assistant

.


Reporting to the Assistant Director (Operations and Communications), the Game Operations Assistant supports Varsity Athletics and Events at the University of Calgary. The position requires significant attention to detail, a comprehensive understanding of sport rules, and work takes place primarily on weekends and/or evenings during home games.


Coordinates the capture, delivery, and dissemination of sports statistics for Dinos varsity sports, primarily football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, and soccer to ensure requirements are met and records are kept in a complete, accurate, and timely way.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Ensure work location (scoretable, penalty box, press box, etc.) is properly set up and equipped for game action, including all necessary equipment, (i.e. score clock console), computers, paperwork, etc. Liaise with game officials before, during, and after the game(s) Conduct responsibilities during games impartially, respecting fairness and sportsmanship, in compliance with University of Calgary and league rules, policies, and procedures As necessary, ensure post-game reporting is complete, accurate, and timely, in compliance with University of Calgary and league rules, policies, and procedures Ensure work location is clean and torn down (as necessary) following the conclusion of the game Works with game officials, other event staff, and league representatives to ensure games are conducted fairly and according to the sport rules in place Timekeeper: maintain official game time (or play/shot clock time) on the venue's primary score clock Scorekeeper: maintain accurate records for scoring including goals/assists/points, fouls/penalties, time outs, and other information as required by the specific sport rules Using league-mandated statistical software, record and compile the statistical summary of the game(s) played and ensure compliance with live and post-game reporting of statistical information-Provide training to other statisticians, as necessary Maintain season and career statistics for student-athletes, and ensure that the official University of Calgary athletics record book is updated frequently (i.e. at least weekly throughout the competitive season)

Qualifications / Requirements:



A minimum of five years' experience as a timekeeper/scorekeeper/statistician in one or more sports at the high school level or higher Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of sport playing rules Strong attention to detail Ability to work as part of a team with other minor officials as well as league-scheduled game officials (i.e. referees) Working knowledge of statistical software (i.e. StatCrew, Dakstats, etc.) as necessary
