Job description
The Gallery Assistant supports the gallery with daily operations, shipping logistics, photo documentation of artwork, inventory and website assistance, managing social media platforms, assisting with the monthly newsletter, assisting with install and de-install of gallery exhibitions, liaising with artists and various subcontractors, and creating visual materials using the gallery's branding.
Skills and Qualifications:
Passionate about contemporary and Indigenous arts
Great interpersonal skills, comfortable conversing with clients and artists to assess the needs of each
Excellent time, organizational, and project management skills
Exceptional written communication skills for day-to-day correspondence
Experience with local and international art shipping and handling
Strong design sense and ability to produce sales pdfs and social media posts in line with the gallery's brand identity
Knowledge of commercial gallery protocols and procedures is an asset
Professional experience working in museums and galleries is an asset
Sales experience is an asset
Basic photography and photo editing skills
Ability to organize and maintain both digital and physical files

Responsibilities:
Exhibitions / Operations
Maintaining awareness of exhibition and art fair deadlines
Handle shipping logistics, including brokerage and customs documentation
Liaise with framers, fabricators, and packers for custom crates, stands, etc.
Maintain organization of storage spaces, keep inventory locations updated in online database
Assist with install and de-install, update wall labels and printed materials related to the exhibitions
Check office supplies and order as needed
Technical / Photography
Organize and assist with photo documentation of artworks and installation shots
Maintain image files on Google Drive
Maintain digital inventory of artworks as new pieces come in
Handle image related requests (providing photo files to artists, clients, curators, etc.)
Occasional art packing/handling
Social Media / Marketing
Maintain and update website with new works, press, events, and exhibitions
Promote on gallery's social media channels
Respond to client comments and messages
Assist with content for monthly newsletters
Client Relations / Sales
Maintain contact database on Artlogic
Monitor the gallery inbox with other staff and respond to inquiries or alert the appropriate contact
General front of house duties: greet visitors, answer questions, take messages, basic tidying
