We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Funeral Director Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide support to families during their time of loss. As a Funeral Director assistant, you will be responsible for helping the licensed Funeral Directors with guiding families through the funeral planning process, ensuring that all details are handled with care and professionalism.

Humphreys Funeral Home is a growing family funeral home located in St. Stephen New Brunswick with a satellite location on Grand Manan Island and a presence on Campobello Island. We pride ourselves in providing families who trust us with kind and compassionate care. Our level of service cannot be completed without our team of dedicated Funeral Director Assistants.
This position is
part-time casual on call
and the hours can vary week to week, the successful candidate(s) will be assigned hours on a at-need basis. We are a 24/7- 365 day a year business and hours can be at all hours a day. Any qualified candidates who make can themselves available regularly will be considered above others.
This position will primarily fill a need for additional support from 5pm-9am and weekends. Overnight hours are removals only and pay 5 hours minimum.
Duties
Collaborate with Funeral Directors to fulfill families' wishes, including supporting visitations, funeral services, burials, cremations, and receptions.
Provide hands-on assistance in conducting funeral services both onsite and at offsite locations, ensuring services are carried out with respect and dignity.
Prepare visitation rooms by arranging furniture, floral tributes, and personal memorabilia in accordance with family preferences.
Ensure facilities are clean, presentable, and restored to their original condition before, during, and after services, including restrooms and coffee lounges.
Maintain company vehicles to a high standard, including washing, interior care, and routine upkeep.
Assist with general facility maintenance tasks such as waste disposal, mopping, dusting, and seasonal outdoor maintenance (e.g., salting).
Safely and respectfully transfer human remains from various locations within New Brunswick, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospices, and private residences.
Safely and respectfully transfer human remains from the Funeral Home to our offsite Crematorium Partners in Saint John or Fredericton NB.
Perform physical tasks such as:
Handling human remains with dignity and professionalism.
Wrapping remains in sheets or pouches to prepare for transport.
Placing remains onto stretchers and securing them appropriately.
Safely loading and unloading remains from vehicles.
Ability to Ride the Grand Manan Ferry or travel to Campobello Island (through Maine) to perform various tasks that fall within the scope of assigned roles.
Additional duties as assigned that fall within the scope of the role as assigned by the licensed funeral directors.
Qualifications:
Professional appearance & demeanor with a compassionate nature.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physically fit as the position requires transporting decedents and standing for long periods.
Ability to manage tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Must be prepared to work with short notice as all hours assigned are on a On-Call basis.
Must have a valid passport with the ability to travel through the United-States.
Must be willing to learn and maintain a working knowledge of various faiths, cultures and traditions,.
Becoming familiar with our local nursing homes, churches, clergy, cemeteries and crematoriums.
Ability to manage/learn basic tech vital to successful delivery of family wishes.
