Job Summary


The Support Worker maintains a culture of compassion and care in a clean, safe, secure, drug and alcohol-free environment for program participants, guests and visitors. The ideal candidate will have experience working with vulnerable women. The Support Worker may be occasionally assigned to Anawim House for men (which includes a drop-in program). The Support Worker works closely and directly with program participants as they transition from homelessness, unsafe domestic situations, poverty and addiction to a life of stability--housed, healthy, connected to family and community, and free from addictive lifestyles. The Support Worker plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for those in Anawim's care by offering respectful, personalized support tailored to each individual's needs.

This position reports to the Program Manager.

The position is offered as a fixed-term contract, subject to extension or conversion to a permanent role.

Duties & Responsibilities



Foster a safe, therapeutic, and welcoming environment for service delivery. Support live-in participants with household responsibilities while they work toward personal stability. Develop, facilitate, and oversee programs for participants and drop-in guests. Assist with intake through assessment, screening, and participant reviews. Provide case management: assess needs, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate progress. Engage in ongoing professional development and training. Monitor and support program participants and drop-in guests, offering practical, emotional, and moral support to encourage self-determination. Provide referrals, assist with navigating services and systems, and support employment searches. Help plan and supervise daily meal plans and shopping. Accurately document daily activities, maintain logs, case plans, and required reports. Liaise with external agencies and service providers. Coordinate participant care relating to security and wellness (e.g., room checks). Conduct urinalysis testing when required. Handle program fees or donations, ensuring proper receipting and compliance with policy. Maintain professional communication via phone and email with internal and external partners. Operate company vehicles as required. Assist participants in maintaining cleanliness of the home and perform general cleaning (e.g., sweeping, mopping, vacuuming).

Qualifications & Experience Required:



Kindness. Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness, mental illness and addiction. Knowledge of community resources. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize own work. Ability to use a collaborative approach to problem solving. Strong computer skills. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Required to complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check prior to commencement of employment.

Qualifications & ExperiencePreferred:



Post secondary education related to Mental Health and Substance Use and/or education in a related field along with 2 years' experience working with the homeless and/or in the area of addictions and mental health is required. A combination of experience and education may be considered. Valid CPR and first aid training including use of Naloxone. Valid Food Safe certificate. Valid Class 5 driver's license.

Pay: $25.08 per hour
