Position Summary



Under the direction of the Manager, Program & Support Services, the Registered Recreational Therapist (R/TRO, CTRS) participates in assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating recreation and leisure services for all residents at The Ontario-Finnish Resthome Association. These services are provided in accordance with the individual resident's care plan, OFRA's policies and procedures, and the Ministry of Health - Long Term Care standards. The Registered Recreational Therapist works collaboratively with other members of the health care team in order to provide quality care to residents and their families.

Qualifications



4-year University Degree in Therapeutic Recreation preferred. Membership in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO). Possess R/TRO designation (Registered Professional with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario) and/or CTRS certification (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist). Experience with InterRAI LTCF/Point Click Care assessments/coding/CAPS/care planning preferred. Relias testing required annually. Completion of courses in Gerontology. Candidates with the following certifications and training will be given preference: P.I.E.C.E.STM, U-FIRST!, Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA), Montessori Methods/DementiAbility Methods for Dementia Care, Mental Health First Aid for Seniors, Indigenous Cultural Competency Training (or equivalent), Teepa Snow "Positive Approach to Care", Snoezelen MSE, DROM, Smart Serve, etc. Demonstrated leadership experience, strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, group facilitation skills, and experience in program development. Minimum of 3 years of experience in Therapeutic Recreation in long-term care. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources. Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent time management skills. CPR and First Aid an asset. Valid Ontario Class "F" driver's license an asset. Ability to communicate in English and Finnish an asset.

Responsibilities



Reports directly to the Manager, Program & Support Services. Provides 1:1 Recreation Therapy for individual residents as per the written Therapeutic Recreation & activities care plan. Conducts group sessions with residents as outlined in the monthly calendar of activities for residents. Assesses the needs, strengths, interests, and abilities of the residents relating to leisure, recreation, and socialization in order to establish a written Therapeutic Recreational care plan for individual residents and a monthly calendar of activities for groups of residents. Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of recreation and leisure services for individual residents, groups of residents and large group events, outings, or special events. Assists in the rehabilitation/restorative care of residents under the direction of the physio and/or occupational therapists, the Manager of Program & Support Services, and/or the Charge Nurse/EDOC/ADOC. Participates at interdisciplinary care conferences, program/team meetings and other relevant internal committee meetings, as required to attain a client centered and outcome oriented process. Completes accurate client records and other reports (i.e. daily flow record sheets, quarterly summaries) in accordance with the Ministry of Health - Long Term Care, and the policies and procedures of The Ontario Finnish Resthome Association. Completes Therapeutic Recreation assessments, coding, CAPS, progress notes, and care planning as per the InterRAI LTCF requirements, following the assessment schedule set forth by the facility RAI Coordinator. Maintains close communication with the Manager of Program and Support Services, Charge Nurse, and other health care team members in order to enhance, restore, maintain, and protect the overall functioning, health, well-being, and independence of residents. Other duties as directed.
