Lay Ecclesial Minister for Youth
Position
: Full-time Lay Ecclesial Minister for Youth (LEM-Y).
Work Location
: Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 146 Talbot St. S. Essex, Ontario.
Commitment
: 20 hours per week. Weekends and evenings required. Possible split shifts and flexible hours, as required.
Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience and Diocesan policies. This position is eligible for participation in the DOL's lay staff benefits and pension plans.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Pastor, or designate, the LEM-Y plays a vital role in fostering the Catholic faith within young people and their families. This position involves planning, coordinating, and leading various programs and activities that promote spiritual growth and community engagement. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Pastor, Associate Pastor, pastoral team, staff, volunteers, and diocesan representatives to support the liturgical, sacramental, and communal life of the parish, with a strong focus on the Youth.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Coordinate with the area school principals for school liturgies and pastoral visits to build evangelizing relationships.
Coordinate, in cooperation with the Pastoral Minister, the Confirmation Preparation program.
Coordinate & deliver programs and activities for students in elementary and high school to encourage their spiritual, emotional and mental growth & wellbeing with an emphasis on promoting moments of encounter with Christ.
Partner with and support existing Young Adult Ministries in the surrounding area, as applicable.
Coordinate & deliver programs and activities for young people and their families, including; Sunday school, school retreats, Vacation Bible School, Catholic conference attendance and other family-centered faith formation opportunities.
Prepare and post updates on social media platforms and in parish bulletins.
Be present at weekend liturgies as assigned.
Recruits, trains, coordinates and supports volunteer ministries within the parish family in accordance to required Diocesan protocols and policies.
Ability to support other members of the Parish team during periods of absences or heavy work load as required
Other duties of a similar nature as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum requirement is a Certificate in Pastoral Ministry or Youth Ministry (completed, in progress or willing to acquire) or a program deemed by the diocese as equivalent.
More advanced education would be an asset, e.g., M.Div., MTS, BA or MA in Religious Studies, Theology or Pastoral Ministry.
Degree or diploma in marketing, communications, business, or a related discipline, or comparable relevant experience.
Previous experience in youth ministry/parish volunteer work would be an asset.
A passionate heart for the youth and a clear vision for reaching and forming the next generation of disciples is a strong asset.
Must be an active practicing Catholic who adheres to the Truths as taught by the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.
A current letter of recommendation from the Pastor at the registered Parish is required.
Good working knowledge of the evangelizing mission of the Church.
Leadership qualities; organizational skills; teaching skills; strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to effectively recruit, train, and provide support to volunteers.
Available for flexible hours of work, including evenings, and weekends.
Access to reliable transportation to travel throughout the community and diocese, as required.
Knowledge and understanding of various social media forums such as, but not limited to, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
Fluent in French would be an asset.
A minimum of three references will be requested of those candidates selected for an interview.
A Vulnerable Sector police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
