Role Overview



Straton Hunter Group is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee the financial management of six franchise restaurant units. Based remotely in Canada, this crucial role will encompass all aspects of financial reporting, payroll processing, tax compliance, daily cash management, and reconciliation. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with proven experience in financial management for multiple restaurant locations at the store level, possessing strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of restaurant financial operations to establish efficient and accurate financial processes across all units.

Key Responsibilities



Oversee all financial operations for six restaurant locations. Manage and process payroll for all restaurant employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable federal, provincial/state, and local regulations. Handle all tax-related matters, including sales tax, payroll tax, and other relevant filings, ensuring timely and accurate submissions in accordance with the law. Implement and manage daily cash handling procedures across all locations, including reconciliation and reporting. Perform regular bank reconciliations for the restaurants' accounts and ensure the accuracy of all financial transactions. Prepare and analyze financial statements (e.g., P&L, balance sheets) for each restaurant. Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial data in accordance with best practices. Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide insightful analysis and recommendations to management. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, provincial/state, and federal financial regulations. Work closely with restaurant management teams to provide financial support and guidance. Assist with the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures that align with the operational needs and regulatory requirements. Manage relationships with external financial partners, such as accountants and tax advisors. Potentially assist with the integration of financial systems and processes for the newly acquired restaurants, ensuring compatibility with reporting needs. Perform other financial management duties as required, considering the multi-location nature of the role.

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA designation is preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience working at overseeing restaurants franchise units at the store level in casual dining. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a significant portion directly related to financial management for multiple restaurant locations at the store level. Proven expertise in payroll processing, tax compliance (including sales and payroll tax), daily cash management, and bank reconciliations within the restaurant industry. Strong understanding of restaurant operations and financial KPIs. Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with restaurant-specific POS and accounting systems is a plus. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-location environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact remotely with restaurant staff and management. High level of integrity and ethical standards.
