Headwaters Health Care Centre serves as the cornerstone of medical services for the Greater Dufferin area and is one of the region's largest employers. Operating as an acute and complex continuing care facility, the hospital provides inpatient, outpatient, and 24/7 emergency services. As a Security Guard, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, and property throughout the hospital. This is a dynamic and public-facing role requiring professionalism, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills--particularly during night shifts when rapid response and independent judgment are essential.
Responsibilities:
Conduct regular patrols of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits.
Operate and monitor security cameras, alarms, and access control systems, reporting any suspicious activity immediately.
Control entry points and verify authorization for access to restricted areas.
Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies such as medical events, fire alarms, or security incidents.
Provide assistance to staff during crisis situations, including evacuations and emergency procedures.
Greet and assist visitors, patients, and employees, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and visitor protocols.
De-escalate conflicts calmly and professionally, maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
Accurately document daily activities, incidents, and reports according to company and site standards.
Collaborate with hospital staff and law enforcement to maintain a coordinated safety presence.
Uphold all health and safety, infection prevention, and confidentiality standards.
Requirements:
Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
Valid First Aid & CPR Level C certification from a WSIB-approved provider
Proof of two COVID-19 vaccine doses
Up-to-date immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella, and two-step Tuberculosis skin test
Willingness to complete N95 Mask Fit testing during training
Vulnerable Sector Check required
Fluent in English (oral and written)
Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred
Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
Applicants who do not possess these certifications may complete Paladin's UOF/MOAB training program before onboarding (training cost covered with 6-month commitment)
