Recreation Facilitator (Permanent, Full time)

River East Personal Care Home

This position is available at a home/community affiliated with Extendicare Inc. The successful candidate would be employed directly by the affiliated home, not Extendicare Inc. Applicants are invited to apply for the following position available at our Personal Care Home serving 120 elders from the city and community of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Reporting to the Life Enrichment supervisor, the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities and qualifications:

RESPONSIBILITIES

\xc2\xb7 Plans, implements and evaluates both individual and group programs in order to meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of the Elders.

\xc2\xb7 Set up and clean program areas as necessary and transport Elders to and from programs.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to be creative and innovative \xe2\x80\x93 implementing new programs and modifying programs to suit Elder needs and capabilities

\xc2\xb7 Maintain program and Elder records according to department policy.

\xc2\xb7 Work cooperatively with other departments to meet Elder needs.

\xc2\xb7 Active participation in committees, interdisciplinary care reviews and meetings as required

\xc2\xb7 Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner, adheres to infection control procedures and follows provincial WS&H guidelines/regulations.

\xc2\xb7 Attends in- service education when required.

\xc2\xb7 Adheres to \xe2\x80\x9cStandards of Employee Conduct\xe2\x80\x9d and Elder Bill of Rights in the Home.

\xc2\xb7 Required to work some day, evening and weekend shifts

QUALIFICATIONS

\xc2\xb7 Successful completion of a degree or diploma in Recreational studies, Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent

\xc2\xb7 Previous experience in activities programming for the elderly is an asset

\xc2\xb7 Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

\xc2\xb7 Strong organizing, planning, prioritizing, time management and multi-tasking skills.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete tasks in a timely manner.

\xc2\xb7 MDS/computer skills

\xc2\xb7 Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check ( including Criminal Background Check, Child and Adult Abuse Check)
