The Hospitality Worker provides janitorial, laundry and housekeeping support for Jackson\xe2\x80\x99s Point Conference Centre and may supporting Ontario Camping Ministries as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Support Services/Housekeeping/Janitorial
  • Responsible for general cleaning which includes, daily vacuuming and dusting; cleaning and disinfecting washrooms, auditorium, meeting spaces, cabins, and guestrooms; replenishing of supplies as needed.
  • Daily vacuuming and daily dusting of buildings (meeting spaces, rooms, hallways, laundry facilities, lounge, cottages and foyer).
  • Clean and disinfect all hygienic areas, including washrooms, basins, toilet bowls, bathtubs, and urinals; restocks washroom supplies and distributes and received materials as required.
  • Empty all waste baskets and garbage receptacles around the centre and within cottages.
  • Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice etc.
  • Ensure rooms and areas are ready for guests to use, doors are unlocked, heat is turned on (if needed), check lights, turn on hot water, turn on porch lights for evening arrivals, set up any equipment that has been requested and set up rooms as requested.
  • Greet group upon their arrival, review documents to ensure guest numbers and rooms; check in with group at each break, and during each meal etc.
  • When guests depart be available, do a walk through the buildings to note any damage, do grounds check for garbage, adjust thermostats, turn off lights and lock buildings etc.
  • Assist with meal setup and clean up. May be required to help with kitchen duties, examples: dish pit, dining room attendant etc.
  • Assist Retreat and Conference Manager and/or Hospitality Supervisor with off season work which includes but not limited; stripping and waxing floors, washing walls and doors, deep cleaning etc.
  • Sanitization of all spaces used by guest groups several times a day in accordance protocols stated by health and safety guidelines.
  • Bed bug protocol as directed.
  • Be available to respond to calls from guests re needing more towels, lightbulb replacement etc.
  • Report any larger issues such as broken doors, toilets, showers, leaks etc. to the maintenance team.
Health & Safety
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army\xe2\x80\x99s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all WHMIS standards are met and SDS sheets are kept up to date.
  • Ensure that Infection Control Procedures are implemented and adhered to.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 40 hours per week with a 30 min unpaid meal break.
  • Exposure to disagreeable conditions: bending, stretching, lifting, cleaning, and disinfecting products, garbage and other odours, weather condition when working outside, verbal abuse from clients, etc.
  • The job requires a frequent amount standing for long periods of time.
  • Working with cleaning chemicals
  • Need to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities \xe2\x80\x93 some weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Some travel may be required up to 5%.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Completion of Secondary School and some post-secondary course work.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Up to one (1) year of prior related experience and general familiarity with cleaning products.
  • Valid Ontario Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License, own vehicle, and insurance, provide an original copy of current driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract for review and verification that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
