POSITION OBJECTIVE




Bethesda's Adult Clinical Services require one (1) Full-Time Contract Communicative Disorder Assistant ("CDA"). The Communicative Disorder Assistant (CDA) will implement speech and language treatment programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers, under the guidance of the Speech-Language Pathologist. The duration of this contract is twelve (12) months.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



Partner with Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) and Audiologists to implement therapy goals for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This will be achieved by using specialized training, tools, and techniques. Assist in the development and implementation of training and workshops to provide communication strategies to caregivers and other professionals within the community. Assist in the development and implementation of group and individual treatment programs targeting speech, language, augmentative-alternative communication (AAC), fluency, and social communication goals. Assist with preparation and development of treatment materials and completion of projects within the Speech & Language department. Work collaboratively with Speech-Language Pathologist and other clinical team members to develop and deliver interdisciplinary treatment programs. Maintain clinical records and treatment progress reports. Attend team meetings as scheduled. Comply with Bethesda policies and procedures relating to health and safety. Responsible for reporting all health and safety concerns immediately following the Internal Responsibility System Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS



Contract wage is based on 2080 hours worked in a year.

Degree or diploma in a related field such as Communication Sciences, Linguistics, Psychology, Health Sciences etc Recommended-Post-graduate diploma or certificate from a recognized Communicative Disorders Assistant program. Recommended-Member in good standing with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC) preferred. Minimum three (3) years of experience with speech and language treatment theories, methods, and techniques. Background in intellectual and developmental disabilities is an asset. Ability to work creatively with clients both individually and in group settings. Experience working within a multi disciplinary team. Proficient with Microsoft Office. Valid Driver's License. First Aid Training and CPR Certification. Safety Care certified. Professional Communication Skills: professionally represents the company through strong communication skills, both oral and written. Teamwork: excels at working with others and communicating with a team to provide the most effective support to clients. Problem-Solving: able to navigate challenges and barriers, always looks for potential pitfalls and risks to help mitigate problems ahead of time, and knows when to ask for help. Proactive: anticipates and solves problems and issues before they are brought to your attention. Fluent in French is an asset The listed wage is based on candidates meeting all the position's requirements and their current level of experience. Candidates without the necessary requirements or experience may be offered a lower pay rate.
