: The Public Education Coordinator (PEC) will develop, coordinate, and oversee the educational programs of the Society including public education, awareness initiatives, and skills development training to a full range of target groups. The PEC will support the Society's communications and initiatives by informing the public and stakeholders through educational programming regarding the symptoms and long-term effects of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and healthy lifestyles.
Qualifications:
Post secondary degree/diploma in the fields of gerontology, health promotion, adult education, communications, social sciences, or other health related field focused on aging. Other disciplines may be considered given appropriate combination of education and experience
Minimum 3 years' experience in the dementia field
Team oriented and ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines in an efficient manner
Exemplary teaching and facilitation skills for both in person and virtual elements
Experience working with volunteers
Skilled verbal and written communicator with demonstrated strong public speaking and facilitation skills
Ability to take initiative, to prioritize workload, and to be resourceful
Active listening and sensitivity in relating with clients, volunteers, public, staff, colleagues, and health care professionals
Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities e.g., to represent the Society at events and programs which occur outside of regular work hours
Computer competency including ability to use electronic communication devices and software pertaining to documentation
Valid driver's license and access to reliable vehicle

Specific Job Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver community dementia education and awareness programs.
Collaborate with partners and health care providers to implement training for care providers and volunteers.
Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders.
Support individuals with dementia and their families through education and resources.
In collaboration with the First Link Counselling Team, facilitate client education throughout Huron and Perth Counties
For educational purposes, assist the Volunteer Coordinator with the orientation and training of volunteers
Ensure maintenance of resource library and recommend additional resource materials
Represent the Society on external community committees as appropriate and as approved by a Manager and/or Executive Director
Maintain a current knowledge of Alzheimer's disease, other dementias, and current resources
Coordinates, plans, and implements the January Awareness Month campaign in collaboration with the Manager of Fund Development, Communications, and Volunteers
Develops external educational communications (e.g., Awareness Campaign, news articles) in coordination with the Manager of Fund Development, Communications, and Volunteers
Implement Finding Your Way (FYW) and Dementia Friendly Communities (DFC) in Huron Perth
Complete accurate documentation in reporting databases

The Alzheimer Society Huron Perth actively supports families and individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We advocate for and provide support services, education, and funding for research for those affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
