Frontline Support Worker Fulltime Weekends

Job Description

As a Frontline Support Worker you will be responsible for maintaining a stable and supportive environment providing solutions-based interventions, care and support to participants experiencing homelessness at the Unity Project. The position requires that you be able to perform daily responsibilities, adequately analyze and act upon conflicts among community members, support full-time workers in maintaining resident support plans and communicate effectively with other staff and residents.

For the Frontline Support Worker Weekend position, the shifts are 12 hours over two days for a total of 24 hours (7-7). This position qualifies for full time group benefits, Group RRSP's, vacation and personal days. We are currently looking to fill lines on both the 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am weekend shifts. Note that a $2/hour premium for hours worked on weekends and $1/hour premium for hours worked on the overnights is in addition to the base rate of pay of $24/hour.

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS



The job involves supporting people experiencing homelessness through a Housing First approach. You will assist individuals in navigating the system, which includes;



Finding alternatives to shelter when possible and being familiar with diversion techniques, Conducting intake interviews, Providing tailored support to meet individual and community needs, using techniques such as motivational interviewing, assertive engagement and gentle persuasion. Engaging in housing-focused case-management, Implementing harm reduction and trauma-informed approaches, Resolving conflicts, Making referrals, Advocating for medical care, Maintaining confidentiality, and Administering first aid when necessary.

You will ensure a welcoming, safe and supportive space where basic needs can be adequately addressed, which includes;



Maintaining a clean and functional facility by completing shift tasks, Performing cleaning duties, Reporting maintenance needs, Monitoring the facility by having a presence inside the shelter and outside on the property to address concerns in the moment, Addressing disruptive behavior and ensuring participant compliance with policies.

Qualifications;



Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. There are no specific academic qualifications required. A degree or diploma in Social Sciences or Social Justice is an asset. Experience with the homelessness sector in a front-line capacity, experience working in a community agency or lived experience of homelessness.

Training/Certificates;



First Aid/CPR certification, or must be obtained within the first 3 months of employment. Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) must be obtained within the first 3 months of employment Additional training is considered an asset, such as solution-based interventions, crisis prevention, mental health first aid, and workplace health and safety

Starting Salary:

$24 per hour, plus $2.00 per hour shift premium on weekends and $1.00 shift premium on overnights.

The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of their own well-being and be able to deal with emotional stress and system frustrations, unpredictable and threatening behaviour, the possibility of exposure to communicable or infectious diseases and the handling and clean up of bodily fluids.
