About the Position:

This is a regular part-time support staff Bargaining Unit position reporting to the Dean, School of Business, English & Liberal Studies working 12 hours per week at an hourly rate of $28.44.

This position provides direct supervision to the operation of Capstones restaurant and all front of house activity related to the operation of Capstones. The position requires the incumbent to collaborate activity between the culinary kitchen lab including faculty, students, and back of house support staff while ensuring customers are having an enjoyable dining experience. Students are provided with guidance and reinforcement of instruction. The position is responsible for all activity related to advertising and promoting of food services including restaurant operations, collaborating with the Marketing department, to the College and greater community. The position includes responsibility for financial operations including maintaining and servicing the point of sales system, and the reconciliation and depositing of cash, debit, and credit card transactions.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Provide direct supervision to students working in a restaurant setting who are acting in a server capacity;
  • Monitor student activity and provide remedial direction for students;
  • Assessment of students within the parameters of the technologist role;
  • Ensure customers have a positive dining experience;
  • Integration of activity between front of house (restaurant) and back of house (kitchen lab) including but, not limited to order accuracy and timeliness of service;
  • Process payment (cash, credit, debit), maintain accurate opening and closing account balances, and deposit of revenue;
  • Inventory control including small wares, dishes, glasses, cutlery, condiments, linens, and beverages;
  • Communicate facility repairs using JIRA
  • Regularly review of the restaurant environment and its equipment ensuring they are in good working order, collaborating with Facilities when repair is required;
  • Ensures a safe environment for students and customers;
  • Coordinate all advertising and promotions in collaboration with Marketing department;
  • Provide regular communication related to the College community related to Capstone\'s operations including services, menu, and specials;
  • Complete all activity related to customer reservations;
  • Assist with the organization and delivery of special events as requested by the College;
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Qualified candidates will possess at minimum a 2 year diploma in hospitality management, or equivalent
  • Preference will be given to candidates who hold the following certifications or have training in: Smart Serve Ontario, OHSA Worker Awareness, OHSA Supervisor, Train Can Inc. BASICS.fst
  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in a front of house role
  • Able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs for short durations (i.e. lifting and carrying of supplies, moving of tables & chairs) required
