Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Operate commercial front-load to collect solid waste along designated routes and transport materials to post-collection facilities Access waste containers by opening gates or enclosures and position 3-4 yard containers on castors for dumping as needed Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete all required vehicle condition reports Maintain cleanliness of the truck, surrounding areas, and customer sites by removing loose trash or debris resulting from dumping operations Interact courteously with customers and the general public; respond to basic inquiries and report service or safety issues to a supervisor Maintain accurate logs, route sheets, productivity records, and inspection reports in accordance with company policy and legal requirements Safely maneuver the vehicle in tight or restricted spaces using mirrors, including backing distances of 120 feet or more Use GPS and route maps to locate service addresses efficiently Follow all safe operating procedures, including lockout/tagout practices Monitor dumping operations to identify loose debris using mirrors, direct observation, and auditory cues Conduct visual inspections of customer sites before and after service Comply with all federal, state/provincial, local, and company safety and vehicle operation regulations Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements


----------------

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Minimum of one (1) year of commercial truck driving experience

or

graduation from an accredited CDL training program Ability to meet all company safety-sensitive position requirements Demonstrated ability to safely operate commercial vehicles and waste collection equipment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of commercial truck components and basic maintenance requirements Ability to operate equipment safely and maneuver vehicles in limited-clearance areas Ability to identify unacceptable or hazardous waste materials (e.g., flammable substances) Strong communication skills with both internal teams and external customers Ability to read, write, and understand maps, documents, and written instructions Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change and pursue continuous improvement Ability to repeatedly lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques Ability to coordinate multiple limbs while sitting or standing Commitment to following all company safety policies and procedures

Physical & Mental Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, talk, hear, and smell Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus Ability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds; occasionally push or move up to 300 pounds Ability to enter and exit the truck multiple times per shift and climb onto the truck to verify load security Sitting required approximately 75% of the workday due to driving duties Ability to work in loud environments

Working Conditions

Frequently exposed to loud noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous materials Regular exposure to extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and storms Outdoor work environment up to 100% of the time Work performed primarily away from the branch location along assigned routes Regular operation in traffic and occasionally in elevated or precarious locations Work environment is typically loud
