Front Desk Agent, Hi Whistler

Whistler, BC, Canada

Job Description

Come join the fun, life-loving team at HI Whistler! Whether it’s for summer, winter - or both - you’ll have a bunch of friends to explore all of what our adventure mountain community has to offer! Whether you are a mountain newbie or a mountain shredder, you’ll find like-minded teammates to create lifelong memories at our hostel. With discounts on ski passes, deals on adventure activities, super-subsidized housing, and a plethora of free outdoor adventures, HI Whistler can be your basecamp for launching all of this. We work hard, but make it look easy with our relaxed atmosphere and we offer shifts that help you make the most of your time with us. You’ve heard about how great Whistler is, but we’ll help you discover how much more rad than that!
What's in it for you

  • Get the best value on staff accommodation: $7-10 per night in an onsite shared staff accommodation
  • Have fun with a tight-knit group of colleagues on and off shift
  • The most affordable housing option in town!
  • Free laundry, wifi, and access to sports gear and staff bikes!
  • A laid-back, casual work environment that is a lot less stuffy than working in a hotel.
  • 40% off food at our onsite café!

What you will be doing

Our Front Desk Agents welcome all guests by providing excellent customer service, being local experts and being able to solve any guest problem.

Tons of opportunities to experience our destination on your time off as you become a local expert—free and discounted activities, free hostel stays within the HI Canada network and more.

Being part of a not-for-profit organization that embraces sustainable tourism.
Room for growth and discovery! Many of our leaders started out on the front lines, and we’re eager to promote from within and provide opportunities to try out different roles.
What we look for
  • You’ll need some prior customer-facing experience; we’ll train you up on our Property Management system, and some prior experience will be a key asset you bring with you
  • You’ll need to be a quick learner, have a willingness to learn, and the ability to think on your feet and problem solve – you’ll need to quickly become an expert on all things to do with the hostel, the town and outdoor adventures, as guests will turn to you for answers on everything
  • You’ll need to bring your positive energy, smile and ability to handle high workloads and stressful moments with a part of the job. An understanding of service recovery and experience handling and resolving guest complaints effectively is part of our ethos here
  • We’re always looking for people who are looking to grow within the industry. Most of our promotions are from within; most of our Assistant General Managers and Managers in our hostel network started as Front Desk Agents.

Join our community
If everything you read above got you excited, you'll be a great fit for our team. Whether you're on a working holiday and this will be a short stop on a longer trip, or you're looking to stay connected to the hostel lifestyle by working among travellers, this is the kind of place for you.
Our team is made up of people from all over the world who are bound by our shared desire to discover new places. You recognize that what draws you to Whistler is what draws our guests here, and you're committed to working with a team of like-minded people to share the best of Whistler and the accessibility of travel with the world.

About HI We love travelling. To us, travel isn’t just about going places, it’s also about meeting people, discovering cultures, eating new food and most of all, learning how people do things differently than we do back home. We believe that through hostelling, we become more conscious about the world around us; and we can even make the world a better place. Our mission is to build a community of conscious travellers who share a greater understanding of people, places and cultures through our network of hostels and people.
