Job Overview

We have an immediate opening for a

Freight Sorter / Backup Delivery Driver

. This hybrid role is vital to our operations, requiring a versatile individual who can handle morning warehouse logistics and transition into a driving role when needed.

You will begin your shift as a

Freight Sorter

, utilizing your organizational skills to sort and distribute incoming freight efficiently. Following the sort, you will act as a

Backup Driver

, assisting with route coverage, overflow, and fleet movements to ensure the timely, safe, and professional transportation of goods.

Key Responsibilities

Freight Sorting & Warehouse Operations (Morning Shift):

Sort and organize incoming freight shipments based on destination and type of merchandise. Ensure all freight is sorted in order of delivery and accounted for. Utilize pallet jacks, dollies, or other equipment to move and stack freight as needed. Scan, load, and secure freight in accordance with safety guidelines. Maintain cleanliness in the sorting area and ensure the vehicle is cleaned out daily. Label undeliverable packages so they are understood by the warehouse clerk.

Delivery Driving (As Needed/Backup):

Assist drivers who have been swamped with deliveries and cover routes due to various reasons. Navigate routes in a safe, efficient manner following all safety, traffic, and DOT laws. Complete pre- and post-vehicle electronic inspection forms and ensure the vehicle is roadworthy. Collect import duties using POS machines and obtain recipient signatures via handheld scanning devices. Refuel the truck at the end of each shift and submit Fuel Logs. Provide excellent customer service while delivering and picking up freight, ranging from envelopes to skids.

Requirements & Qualifications

Experience driving a 1-ton cube van or 5-ton truck is an asset. Candidates must have a valid Driver's License and a clean driving record (no more than 3 demerits). 2 years of courier driving experience OR 1 year of customer service combined with 3 years of driving experience. Ability to lift 75 lbs. alone and up to 150 lbs. with assistance. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment, including inside container trailers and delivery trucks in all weather conditions. Steel or composite toe safety boots/shoes are mandatory (vests provided by the organization). Strong command of the English language and strong communication skills. Must be comfortable with a flexible schedule and able to commute reliably to the work location. Must be bondable.

Good to Have

Familiarity with postal codes, routing charts, and maps. High school / College certificate is an asset. Strong prioritization and multitasking skills.
