primary responsibility will be to drive profitable business growth through Spot Market Activity. This will occur through Freight Acceptance and Freight Generation activities by the Spot Market Team. The FSS will leverage expertise using available tools, data and experience on Asset and Logistics Truck Capacity as well as Market Rates to provide direction to internal stakeholders to increase spot load freight volumes. The FSS will maximize customer spot market volume by executing on strategies developed by the Spot Market Team. This role will be responsible for Volume Generation via direct engagement through various freight channels. The successful candidate must possess a strong sense of urgency to ensure that network planning needs are met to keep drivers moving when available for loads. This role will act as a "hunter" with a meaningful incentive-based opportunity and will require negotiation skills, forward-thinking, collaboration with stakeholders and timely communication.
Freight Acceptance:
Timely response to Freight Acceptance Requests from Customer Service (CS), Sales and direct requests from customer for assigned region. Target response time: 15 mins.
Provide advanced direction to Customer Service (CS) team members when they can accept freight.
Manage assigned freight acceptance channels including load boards, platforms, and specific customer relationships to maximize freight acceptance for the given customer.
Understand the difference between committed load volume vs non-committed load volume.
Understand market freight rates, support in negotiation spot market business, and direct long term rate inquiries to the Marketing Department.
Freight Generation:
Responsible to support and review customer-specific spot market volume strategies to maximize volume.
Manage assigned freight generation channels including load boards, platforms, and specific customer relationships to maximize freight acceptance.
Apply market knowledge and use available tools to negotiate best possible rate on spot loads booked.
Establish and strengthen relationships with key customer & broker contacts.
Use various tools to recognize committed truck capacity in need of a 'next load'.
Generate ad hoc loads for identified capacity in a timely manner when a driver needs a 'next load' to keep drivers moving and limit down time.
Analytical Tools/Pricing
Build truck capacity and market rate knowledge using internal tools & data and external data sources to build expertise.
Leverage data to drive decision-making.
Exchange relevant information such as business trends, customer issues and opportunities. This includes activities such as problem existing accounts, soliciting irregular and new clients. The information and leads gathered in this process should be passed on to the Marketing effort as the situation dictates.
Customer Service Support:
Support assigned customer service staff when needed to resolve issues/concerns that may ariserelated to a spot load booked by the FSS.
Ensure assigned customer service has the required information and contact information to meet customer expectations for communication and load execution.
Build strong relationships with Customer Service team to become a go-to resource.
Other Duties:
Work closely with internal stakeholders in Operations, Customer Service, Sales and Analytics teams to achieve departmental objectives. The FSS must be aware of issues that go beyond their specific region and have a clear understanding of how their activity affects the entire network. Involvement in issues outside of their region or regular scope of duties is required.
Identify critical Bison asset freight shortages and work closely with operations leaders in planning to communicate required actions, review options and discuss solutions.
