We are a dedicated foster care family in Ottawa seeking a compassionate and experienced
DSW
to provide in-home medical support for a medically fragile child in a one on one setting. This role is pivotal in ensuring the health and well-being of our foster child, who has unique medical and emotional needs. The pace of work is significantly more relaxed than a normal hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Medication Administration:
Safely administer prescribed medications (Nasogastric (NG) tube feeding etc.), ensuring accurate dosage and thorough documentation.
Personal Care:
bed bathing, dressing, Nasogastric (NG) tube feeding, toileting, and suctioning, among other daily activities.
Monitoring & Assessment:
Track vital signs, observe health changes, and communicate concerns to the healthcare team.
Mobility & Positioning:
Assist with safe transfers and proper positioning using assistive devices.
Respiratory Care:
Provide oxygen therapy, suctioning, and support for respiratory function; manage BiPAP use.
Nutrition:
Assist with meal prep and feeding, manage feeding tubes, and ensure hydration and nutritional needs are met.
Specialized Support:
Experience or willingness to manage conditions including sialorrhea, BiPAP dependence, and urinary retention requiring clean intermittent catheterization (CIC).
Responsibilities
Provide home care services that ensure a safe and comfortable living environment.
Administer medication as prescribed and monitor clients for any changes in health status.
Support individuals with disabilities in achieving personal goals and improving their independence.
Engage clients in social and recreational activities to promote well-being and community involvement.
Maintain cleanliness and organization within the living space to ensure a healthy environment.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and other caregivers to develop personalized care plans.
Document client progress and report any concerns or changes in behavior or health.
Qualifications
Experience in caregiving, home care, or related fields is preferred.
Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
Knowledge of medication administration protocols is beneficial.
Previous experience in nursing homes or assisted living facilities is a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
A compassionate approach to patient care, demonstrating empathy and patience at all times.
Ability to perform light cleaning duties as part of maintaining a safe environment for clients.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.
Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in
Developmental Service Work (DSW)
and knowledge of total care clients care preferred. Training is provided to the right candidate.
